Comparing Cal to Urban is as dumb as Urban's first statement. And by the way no Cal doesn't tell recruits those things. Don't believe me read what the recruits are saying for themselves. Cal first and foremost tells them about the pressure at UK and that it's not for everyone. If you don't invite living under the microscope at UK then you are better off going somewhere else. Cal gets recruits because he doesn't lie to them. To paraphrase a recruit in this class he committed to Cal because Cal was the only coach that told him what he didn't want to hear. That's the exact opposite of Meyer.

Meyer did the same thing...Told the kid he was not an OSU recruit at the beginning of the process and later the kid made himself into a player Meyer would offer. Sometime you're not going to hear things you like in life and it's how you deal with it. Urban wins and he may ruffle some feathers in the process, it happens! UK fans would take Urban in a heartbeat just like you warmed up to Cal after he started getting recruits and winning. UK fans hated Cal when he was at Memphis and that is a fact, I have been on this site since 2001 and I remember all the hatred towards Cal when he was kicking Tubby's rear for recruits calling him a cheater and a scumbag!

Gee I guess having Urban on board kind of means something right? Funny that this board trashes Urban but HE never had any games wiped out, unlike Cal....

yeah that's what one time out of the last 50? Most of the time OSU gets beat down by SEC teams as bad as UK does. Take your snot somewhere else.

No warming up to Cal here. I've wanted him as a replacement as soon as Pitino left. Not sure who you are talking about when you say UK fans hated him. I sure as hell didn't. Even back in the late 90's when Pitino started flirting with the NBA I was willing to let him go because Cal was better even back then.

Cal is innocent, all other coaches aren't....got it.

Again that's totally stupid. The games Cal had wiped out had nothing to do with him. Lots of coaches have had games vacated. How many of Cal's players have committed murder? Urban has some currently in prison for that. Cal at least produces model citizens.

Nothing about this story is surprising or could make me think even less about Urban. One of the truly unsavory sleazeballs in modern sports, he is exactly the type of person who's involvement makes following the game not fun. There is a reason despite winning some games that he is universally reviled from coast to coast, why a couple of years ago so many people across the country took joy from the picture & video of him sitting miserably eating soggy cold leftover Papa John pizza in a golf cart after being upset by Mich St.

wish him & his current fanbase nothing but the absolute worst possible outcomes this day & the rest of his days
Spurrier won one NC at Florida, he is loved and cherished there.
Meyer won two NCs at UF, he is detested and despised there.

I use to pull for Ohio state due to family ties, but now that is done as long as Meyer is the coach. It wouldn't matter if the kid was going to uk or not, you don't treat a kid like that

I was waiting for the uneducated moronic SEC fan Murder story....typical.

UK had Sutton and Pitino...both cheating garbage...you ADORED both coaches here....but you overlook reality and bash other schools....open your eyes....UK basketball fans and OSU football fans are ALIKE...they are egotistical and cocky...and I can't stand that in fans....
Yea and you had Woody Hayes who cheated as well as hit players.

I also don't think Cal bad mouths other programs. I could be wrong, though

Yup, he looks pretty "unsubstantial" himself.

I know some folks at Utah - they could not stand Meyer, UF fans hate him, it comes to no shock to me that he is beloved and embraced by Ohio State fans. He is one of them...

Well, it sounded more like Bama offered and Urban let Bama dictate whether Young was worthy or not. He should be a better evaluator than that.

For OSU fans, I understand he's your coach and the tendency is to defend him, but he's 100% wrong here. There's no need for him to be a jerk in this case. Even if what he said were true (it's not), there's still no defensible reason for him to tell a high schooler that he's worthless. Calling someone insubstantial is one of the more rude things you can say. And for what reason? Because the kid had the gall to ask what changed with regards to a football scholarship offer. I understand Urban Meyer gets paid primarily (almost exclusively) to win football games. However, his role also demands him to be a leader of young, impressionable, and often troubled or less fortunate men. Treating them as "insubstantial" on a personal level is inappropriate for someone in his position.

Aside from that, if someone essentially called you (or your son) worthless you'd be angry at them as well. So, I really don't understand why OSU fans feel the need to run down a kid, a state, a university, and a conference (the oddly misplaced SEC bashing reeks of jealousy by the way), because that kid didn't bow at the feet of some entitled football coach who treated him like crap. And good for Landon for calling Meyer out. Just because you're an elite football coach shouldn't give you free reign to be an insufferable jerk.

Mitch Barnhart told this story at a small lunch gathering a few years ago but when Urban was at UF, he wrote Mitch a letter BLASTING UK and the Athletic Dept because of all of UK's NCAA self-reported rule book violations. Sandy Bell/UK is well known for reporting EVERYTHING including the most minor secondary violations no matter how puny. But he was basically saying by self-reporting all these, UK was giving the SEC a bad name. This was at a time when UF players were getting arrested every weekend and Mitch said he let Meyer have it.....writing him back with ALL the arrests of UF players and that maybe he should spend more time controlling his own program rather than worry about UK.

there's a reason why when Tim Tebow was knocked TF out, the ride UK provided UF to send him to the hospital was the truck bed of an F150

Who cares. Michigan absolutely OWNS the SEC record wise....how many championships has that gotten them?
So an OSU fan is trying to bring up Michigan to defend his team, That's rich and I hope those Wolverines see this post of yours. Hey Michigan come and fight our battles for us because we can't stand the heat when our record is brought up. What a punk.

Honestly, even though I think it's a total jerk thing to say, period, I can see why Urban would have that attitude toward the UK FB program. His UF teams absolutely murdered the Cats except for Woodson's JR/SR years.

That being said, it was ridiculous for him to use the same language about a recruit to his face like that. There are a number of ways he could have said it without reeking of disrespect.

Yeah you weren't good enough to play them this year were you. What a twit. Bama played in the National Championship game this past year where were you. Oh yeah you couldn't make it there.

Over the years Bama makes OSU their little play things and you can't do a thing about that history boy.

Now I'm going to do what I do with anybody too stupid to know better than talk about being better than Alabama, heck you're already scared of Michigan. Bye boy

Well at the end of the day none of this can be good for Urban or Ohio Bugeyes. I mean if your a parent and you read these things about a coach are you going to send your child to play for that coach...That's why the Bugeye fans are pissed.

He did have a psychopath murderer who some how never got in trouble under his watch. Yea hernandez did no wrong while under meyer. Meyer is a piece of crap. Don't even try comparing a kid who took money from an agent after already saying he was leaving to a guy who let a muderer get a free pass in college for wins.

First of all, you're an idiot. When Cal was at Memphis there was a vocal minority that called him a cheater. When memphis drilled our asses in maui when tubby was coaching here, somebody started a thread calling him a cheater and 75% of the responses were " you're just mad because he doesn't recruit awful projects and he plays a fun style." I remember this because the thread was screen capped and passed around when this was brought up from time to time.

The cheating to get recruits angle was ridiculous anyways. He got like 3 or 4 elite recruits his entire time at memphis (washington, williams, rose, evans). Most of his players were 3 and 4 star athletes. Was he cheating and paying players to get 3 stars? He recruited players that a lot of other programs avoided due to perception about theor high schools and prep schools. This is basically what every single mid major does because they don't have the benefit of being able to overlook them because they're a big boy in the recruiting scene. Since he has gotten to kentucky he doesn't recruit any of those players because guess what... He can afford not to.

So STFU with your ignorant and false BS rant. Go home.

You had a strong contingency of the fan base that wanted Bobby Petrino as our head coach and he's 10x worse of a person than Urban Meyer. Petrino is unethical, a liar, and a snake. Urban is a prick to recruits. Mostly because if one 4 star turns him down, he has 3 more lined up. If Urban Meyer was hired here and won, he would fit in just fine. Don't get on on that high of a moral horse.
To his players as well.
