I had to venture over to Oxford last week...

with one of our subsidiary's employees from St. Louis to meet with the contractor renovating the Ole Miss Baseball Stadium...Ladies and gentlemen I hate to admit it but they are kicking our backsides on this project! That stadium already has a great setting but damn that thing is first class. I hadn't been over there in two years and it doesn't look like the same stadium. Also, they are building a huge athletic dorm and just opened a nice hotel on campus. Ol' Dickie coughed up some funds before he went down! Oh yeah, we got the "tin monster" Thanks Larry!

Yeah they definitely up the ante with their new baseball stadium. I'm hoping that this will motivate the Ninja to work on some plans for ours.

You are correct in their setting, it's a nice place. Arkansas's is nice as well.

I'm partial of course, but I still think ours is better. Attendance, atmosphere, etc. we are still better. And like I said, we'll get a new project going soon. I don't personally go for the look they are going for, so I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I still like the "ballpark" feel that we have.

but I will say this...if they went brick facade on the outside similar to Autozone in Memphis or Ballpark in Arlington, etc., then their is better, bottom line. Those parks are the way a stadium is supposed to look from the outside. New Yankee Stadium - same idea.

And I bet they incorporated the red that is all over campus on the roof of every building. That looks good too.

then they need to re assess what they are doing over there. We haven't renovated in 10 years.

That building is probably residence college, which some genius came up with an idea to give students an opportunity to live with professors or some crap like that. I wouldn't worry about dorms because there is no way Ole Miss can catch up with MSU's in the immediate future

Allow me, if you will, to make the obligatory Rebel-esque reply to such posts...

*ahem*

Oh yeah!? Well their baseball team will still suck worse than ours! Our baseball team has a tradition of of history that is founded in...traditional...history! you're a bunch of hicks!

1. No chance in hell that thing is done before SEC play starts (I will come here and eat my crow if it is). Even if they go balls to the wall I just dont see how it could be finished any sooner than a month and half (and no, I have no engineering/architecture background).

2. I am ok with them having a nicer stadium for the time being. When we have a few successful years under Cohen, we will do similar renovations (and obvioulsy one up whatever Ole Miss does) and we will still have the LFL whic will make the place easily the best college baseball venue in the country.

MSU set the standard long ago when Dudy Noble was constructed. We were the guinea pigs with the sky boxes. Everyone came to Starkville to see what was good, bad, and ugly with everything we have done. We are in bad need of a makeover but I would not trade that Super Regional Series beating Clemson to go the the CWS. You just dont replace special moments with new paint.

Forgot to add.....BUDGET BUDGET BUDGET. WE have to stay in BUDGET. Thanks LT.

They act like pretty much everything will be done by our home opener in 3 weeks. They said that there will still be some clean up and finishing work to do, but they act like all the bones will be there and the concourse and conscession stands will be all good to go. The locker rooms and dugouts are already complete.

I wouldn't have bought the idea that they'd be done by our home opener with all the major stuff, but they've made a ton of progress in the past few weeks, which leads me to believe it's possible.

By the SEC opener, I expect it will be 100% complete including all the finishing details. They've really picked up the pace on the place in the past few weeks.

I have an engineering background and it will be ready for SEC play. Will be some minor cosmetic work still to be done for the season opener but it will be ready to hold a full crowd by then. The work they've done in the past 3 weeks is incredible.

because we have other needs facility wise- especially the basketball IPF, which personally I think Rick and his coaches deserve to have.

Plus, it will be a lot easier to raise money when the team is doing really well, and once Cohen gets established and everyone gets on board.

The football stadium and the Hump also have some needs as far as renovations as well.

believe how much they have gotten done on it in the last 2 months. They have literally worked 16-18 hour days for a good bit of it to get it ready for the opener.

It is a very nice stadium and a much deserved one for Ole Miss but I'll take Dudy Noble any day. How many people is this thing supposed to hold? Attendance will never match ours

I dont remember the actual numbers on the grandstand part, but I know we will be able to put 10-12k in there for sure between the grandstand and outfield.

The Grandstand is slated to hold around 6500 I believe. The outfield of course can hold quite a few more, especially after the expansion. We'll have to see when we get some hard sellouts what the number actually is.

Edited: I think we used to be able to get about 9000 including the outfield. With the expanded grandstand seating, I'd have to think that we're probably in the 10,000-11,000 range in terms of total capacity. We'll see when we finally pack it out.

....The tax ushered in by Pat Lamar many years ago to build that stadium has been one of the geese laying golden eggs for OM.

2% on all "prepared food" in Oxford? Are you kidding??
