I have never seen this kind of coaching attrition

here at MSU. We are about to have lost our entire defensive side of the ball and not one of those coaches took a job promotion, they were all lateral moves. This is not good for recruiting or continuity. You can generally expect to lose 1 coach every couple of years for this or that reason but to lose your entire foundation on defense is troublesome. You can basically kiss Thompson good bye to the rebs and it wouldn't surprise me to see a couple of others start to waiver. These kids develop their most important relationships with the position coaches and it not only hurts the 2010 class but it hurts the kids we were selling for next year. If the rumors of Melvin retiring are true then I am going to blow a freakin casket.

So what is the problem? Sherrill never had these kinds of problems and I don't remember Croom having those types. And anybody that knew JWS knows he was tough on assistant coaches. I can remember numerous times JWS just chewing up a couple of guys on the sidelines. BUT JWS also knew how to be a leader and handle them. You cannot tell me losing 4 coaches doesn't disrupt the flow of the program and I think it will impact the season ahead.

at least someone wants our coaches.

But as of now, we've lost a DC that most say wasn't on the same page as Mullen and we lost David Turner b/c he is friends with Joker Phillips.

Look where we ranked in SEC on defense and I think you would agree, we needed change. Coach Mullen seems to be taking his time to get it right. No matter what kind of offensive genius he is, defense and special teams are key in the SEC.

Means the coaches leaving were not very good. I can't see how you can be terribly upset by losing Torbush to Kansas. Turner is a worse loss than Hot Carl, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it. There are many good coordinators out there and Mullen's hires may be more important than the final recruiting push.

related to Melvin Smith retiring and Tony Hughes's son is coming to play ball at MSU so I don't see Tony going anywhere. With Torbush you had a DC that most of the MSU fanbase didn't really want from the start anyway and with David Turner, he had been passed over 3 times here for DC (once when Harbison got the job, then Torbush and this time) so he decided to go and work with a former friend to see if he didn't have a better chance to move up the coaching ranks there. It could potentially have some negative effects on recruiting but the sky is not falling.

I am glad torbush is gone bc he wasn't worth a damn, but the point is not about his coaching abilities. It's about a lack of continuity. It's a lack of developing a solid foundation for recruits and the program in general. My source says Knox is pretty much allready out the window and headed to Texas Tech. </p>

let's keep crappy coaches solely because of recruiting. Never mind that they can't actually coach the recruits that they get.

And didn't Turner do the Starkville area? If we can't recruit there, we're screwed anyway.

it happens to everyone, but especially to young coaches. You have to be around a while to find a staff that sticks with you.

How many times did we hear that word in the last 6 years? How many years did we have the same damn offensive staff and not develop anything from it. Having continuity is like having senior players. It's a liability if they suck.

I got every ticket stub from JWS first game until his last in case on display above the fireplace. I'd like to compare the amount of money I give to the University to yours. Then let's see who runs his @#$$*%$ mouth?

If that's trolling then I am.

Do you not want to discuss coaching changes?

You have ticket stubs framed above your fireplace. Really?? Does that look feng shui between the deer heads and shotgun shell Christmas lights on the mantle?

Kinda reminds me of that poker game at Augusta.

Some newbie, that had just gotten his bestowed club membership at Augusta, came in the men's locker room and saw that a poker game was cranking up.

The old timer dealing told everybody "Quarter ante!".

The newbie said "Quarter ante? What the hell. Let's make it interesting!".

The old timer dealing said "You want to make it interesting? OK, how bout this. High card for a quarter of a million dollars!" and proceeds to spread the cards out all over the table.

The newbie looks around and figures out the old timer is serious and exclaims "I'm ok with quarter ante."
