I have one BIG problem with playing Jackson State next year.

Unless they have changed it, you can only count a I-AA win once every three years towards bowl eligibility. So...if hell freezes over and we beat UT on Saturday, then take care of MTSU, UK, and Arkansas, we go bowling COUNTING the win against SELA. So...next year, still with Croom, we would have to win seven games? I don't like that. Or...is this Byrne's crafty way of showing Croom the door?

If they have changed the rule or my interpretation of it is wrong, than correct me. This is just what I remember from about 5 or 6 years ago.

I do think we should occasionally play all of them. Something like JSU twice and Alcorn & Valley once each in an 8-year span.

It makes much more sense to play an in-state I-AA (I refuse to use the championship subdivision crap) as opposed to a school outside of Mississippi. This game will be a sellout. At least the payola for the slaughter stays in Mississippi.

Seriously though, if you were replacing a road game or something, it would make sense. I just don't see the advantage here.

1. We get a I-AA game on the schedule. Since you're allowed to count a I-AA game per year towards bowl eligibility, it's a no-brainer to play a I-AA team every year.

2. We'll sell 5,000-10,000 more tickets for JSU than we would for LA Tech. Counting concessions, that's a gross of at least $250,000 - $500,000 more. I doubt the guarantee we'd pay JSU would be any more than the one we were paying LA Tech (and even if it were, we'd still have a cheap home game in 3 years).

3. By adding a home game to the 2012 schedule, we make it a little easier to get 7 home games that year.

...but it basically combined #1 and #3 of what you just said.

It will increase tickets sales for one non-conference home game next year

and

It will give MSU a minimum of seven homes games in 2012 (if we do ink the contracts that GB is currently floating to some other schools)

So, if that isn't a problem, then I say bring it on. Let's see. Perhaps another home game? Check. We will whip their ***. Check.

Visiting bands don't ever perform that I remember, but I hope this one does. That would rock.
