Every game of the College World Series so far I've had to watch away from home. For game 1 and 2 I was in the Bay Area--in the first case frantically refreshing Twitter on a tour bus and in the second listening to XM while driving down to Big Sur. During game 3 I was on the last day of my old job and was cleaning out my office and watching on ESPN3. (In fact, the secretary interrupted me just as Hunter Renfroe hit his homerun. She apologized, but I told her to interrupt me as many times as possible for the remainder of the game.) In short, there appears to be a strong positive correlation between my absence from home and our victories.
Well, last night I messed up and watched at home. I apologize. Clearly I should have known and done better.
But all is not lost. I'm moving, and my wife set the cable turned off this morning. I'll be watching the game tonight elsewhere. And for the Wednesday game I'm doing one better. As an act of penance, I'm going to Uganda--and I expect to learn when I arrive at my layover in Paris that we are CWS champions.
This is the summer of playoff comebacks: first the Heat, then the Blackhawks, and now the Bulldogs.
