Young and energetic.
Head Coaching experience.
Offensive minded.
Strong recruiting ties to the south, particularly Georgia and Florida.
The guy is a winner.

Bascially, he meets every qualification that has been posed by this message board.

Regardless, we're gonna look up one day and he is going to be coaching a winner at an SEC or ACC school. It can be us or someone else.

And before you give me the I-AA line, the following list of individuals are coaches who coached at the I-AA level, were hired as a I-A coach, and had success at that level.

Nutt - Murray State to Boise, then Arkansas.
Beamer - Murray State to VT
P. Johnson - GS to Navy, the GT.
J. Tressel - Youngstown to O. State.

They were thinking in Atlanta that if Johnson fell through, Hatcher would have been their guy.

but his name was thrown around with the Clemson and Tennessee opening this year, as well as Georgia Tech last year.

but since the question was about an ACC or SEC school, I left the Golden Nuggets out.

He was also considered for the Bama job when they hired Sabear.

...but I definitely would not be disappointed with Hatcher. An infusion of youth and energy is just what the program needs, and he can flat-out coach. I do have some concerns, though, like his ability to recruit. I know it's been mentioned that he has ties in the south but he's never recruited at this level. I would also be concerned about what kind of staff he'd be able to build.

from Georgia Southern eons ago in another sport. That resulted in a nice ride that lifted us to national prominence. Too bad the car slammed into a massive Live Oak at the end of the ride because a squirrel got into the engine (think brain if you're not into metaphors). Luckily the automobile was fixed shinier than ever by an energetic, young AD.

I have no 17ing idea why I typed all this and wasn't really trying to make any point. Georgia Southern just made me start thinking about Polky.

but my gut instinct just tells me Hatcher would be the better pick of the two. I know he would not bring us the media attention that Wilson would bring and his experienc with OU would probably help with recruiting. But hell, Croom's hire got us all kinds of attention from the national media. His first press conference was show on CNN. Being black, we just assumed recruiting would come easy......and look where we are.

I just want a guy who knows how to win football games. Period.
