I hope we lose to Coastal

The football program needs a factory reset. We have a projected first round QB (https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...k-draft-rueben-bain-arvell-reese/87218748007/) , a defense leading the SEC in forced turnovers, a combination that for any other program would at least get you to a bowl, and yet here we are.

If we beat Coastal and somehow beat Clemson, we finish 5-7 and eat up the “look how close we were to being good” bc of the 4th qtr losses. Beamer will land some high profile recruits and transfers, which he is good at. And we will all be sitting here in May having hope again.

We need a factory reset. Collapse it all. Striking gold like Indiana, Texas Tech, Ga Tech and Virginia seem to have done takes a collapse first.

I don't hope we lose but I won't care if we do. It's at the point where it'll mean something if we lose but not if we win.

I see no way that we lose this one but an overhaul of the entire coaching staff has to happen.

Well Coastal is hanging 40+ on teams like Marshall, App State, Georgia Southern. Not SEC teams but would WE hang that many without defense or STs TDs?

If Coastal plays disciplined special teams and doesnt turn the ball over, it will be a 4th quarter game.

Is a competitive game enough to get Beamer canned?

I feel it will be closer than the experts think, I too am luke warm to a loss or a win. A loss may very well be the Nail in the Beamer coffin, a win, Nothing changes. Carolina's bowl game now is Klimpsun!

Why would you hope we lose? I would like to see a lot of guys getting playing time to watch some of next years players.

I certainly don't hope we lose, but I've definitely lost interest. I doubt I'll tune in (if I can find the game).

But then again... I've been doing this for a long time and I know that I'll be looking for an excuse to watch the game.

I'm going to go against the grain, and contrary to how I normally feel week-to-week. I think we steamroll Coastal (well, "steamrolling" for us anyway). I'm thinking something like 45-17. Maybe, just maybe, we get Cutter into the game with about 6-8min left.

Probably. But, to me, that would almost be embarrassing b/c I can see Beamer carrying on like we'd just won the Super Bowl.

"Look, I know this season hasn't gone the way we'd hoped, but they got a heck of a program at Coastal. They beat two top 25 football teams just 5 years ago. So, yeah, we're gonna enjoy this one. Good win over a tough team."

Oh, 100%. Arrogant, defiant Beamer would be back, full-force.

I still want to win-sorry. It's not changing my opinion of Shane but I don't like to lose. I hope we win out. Will we win out is a whole nother question though.

And THAT is why I hope we lose. We beat Coastal comfortably then, Clemson is almost as bad as us, we pull out a win over them, and the sales pitch will be “We are the best 5-7 team in America. We change 3 plays in 3 4th quarters and we are 8-4, playing for 9.” And then in October 2026, we are 3-5 again wondering WTF

Not just lose.....I hope they get blown out! Maybe that will force a change.

"Hey we're up by 21 at half. We're gonna enjoy what we've accomplished in the locker room, make no adjustments and hope we can hang on for the win. Halftime party at my house everyone"
"We just want to get this thing to the 4th quarter..... (where we can hopefully, somehow, hang on for the "W")"

If we were discussing NFL football, it would make sense to hope your bad team loses.

This isn't the NFL. Hoping we lose to Coastal is bizarre.

If we dont bottom out nothing changes. 2015, what if we somehow pulled out a couple more wins, didnt lose to Citadel, went 6-6, Spurrier stays. Yes Muschamp wasnt great. But the change and opportunity to try was there

I hope we do not lose to Coastal.

My whole point in watching Carolina sports is to pull for victories.

My unhappiness with the current coach is not greater than my desire to win the game.

Well, beating a team you should beat wouldn't be good right about now? For the fans?
I don't care about the fans right now....I care about the direction of the program, which, if done right, will also make fans happy long term. Short-term happiness, to me, gets trumped by long-term success.

Is beating a crappy Coastal team going to make you feel any better about this year? Or would a plan to fix the program long-term be better? Think about it! Instant gratification or long-term success?

I've thought about it. Beamer offers no long-term success.

This is really the crux of the discussion.

Short term pain vs long term gain. There is a certain logic to the long term good a loss on Saturday will bring.

But it is anathema to most to actively cheer against our team.

I just won't care if we win or lose. A win is 100% cosmetic and does nothing to change or build the state of the program. We can win 100-0 and the program is still in shambles. A loss will do little to change the status of the program either. It would just confirm what we know.

I will not even have the energy to turn the game on. I have no idea how folks will be motivated to go through the hassle of going to the game.

I hope we win, and build momentum into Clemson and beat them to.

The "culture" which we hear about about being so strong, is being tested right now, if it has fallen off the rails since the last game, we certainly could lose to Coastal.

I don't hope we lose, but I do understand the balancing of short-term gains vs long-term goals.

Realistically and historically, how many coaches have come back from the hot seat to have a long tenure at their current program? It just doesn't happen. Or rarely, if it does.

The most likely scenario is that Beamer is going to be canned next season. That being the case, would it just be better to lose to Coastal, can him now and get a head start with a new coach? If it puts us a year ahead of schedule, I can understand it.

The alternative is we get to celebrate a totally meaningless win over Coastal (meaningless in every possible way), it saves Beamer's job, we bring him back next year, then fire him and look for a coach for 2027.

Again, not hoping that we lose, but I would not be upset if we did and it accelerated the coaching search process.

On the coaching search process, would losing and accelerating the coaching search process and entering this years pool, given how many teams and top teams are already in the pool, even be good for us?, seems like next year may be better timing for us. This seems like a very strong and busy year, already.

I don't want see us participate this year, so there is another reason I I hope we win, our next 2 games!
