I just don’t understand her reluctance?

It is my goal to take my wife with me to see a game in Barrow Alaska in a couple of years to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary. I have tried to reassure her that polar bears are seldom a problem at the field, since they post a sentry or two with rifles to keep them away. (This is true. And during practices, too).

Also, I want to say that I once saw an errant punt end up in the Article Ocean.

Also, they may be the only public High School team that takes a charter flight to every away game. Because there are no roads in or out of Barrow.

That ranks up there with field I’ve seen pictures of on top of a building somewhere in NJ.

Good luck! I've been trying to talk my wife into a trip to Torngat Mountains NP and running into the same "it'll be too cold and there'll be polar bears" argument.

I worked above the Arctic Circle for 7 years and have been to Utqiaġvik several times...that field is awesome and they loves them some Whalers!

Polar Bears aren't that big of an issue as long as you can outrun whomever you're with. The biggest concern is wolverines...them critters stink, mean and have a very disagreeable disposition.

Fun fact about Barrow, Alaska. For all you horror flick fans (like me), there is a vampire movie that came out back in 2007 called 30 Days of Night. The film centers around the town of Barrow, Alaska, which experiences 30 straight days of darkness due to it's polar location. During this period, Barrow is overrun with vampires. GREAT HORROR FLICK!!!!

That is wild. I wonder what the real circumstances are. Polar bears do not play well with people.
