I don't think he would be in consideration for the AD job though. He's a guy who would help the transition though and make sure things get done in the interim.

It does make me wonder if the timetable for naming a new AD has slipped though. Byrne was supposed to stay through the end of April and we supposedly were going to name a new AD the first week of May. </p>

Per Keenum, they still hope to name someone around the first week of May, but he cannot be sure when the person chosen will be able to take over full time control of the department. Depending on who we hire, that person could start immediately (Strickland) or need 4-6 weeks to get things in order where they currently work (a sitting AD).

Regardless, I thought having the new guy in place and running by May 1 was unrealistic unless the plan has been to hire Scott from the very beginning.

Keenum has done a good job of masking the plan. They are either going through the motions of a legitimate search, or they are actually conducting a legitimate search.

Going through the motions. Make the announcement and move on.

With State funds as tight as they are right now, why 'go through the motions' if you have already decided to hire from within? Does not make sense to me but I'm sure it happens. It won't endear me to Keenum ifit doeshappen.

It helps our conference and national perception that we went national, got a good list of candidates, interviewed them all, and picked the best guy for the job.

*My opinion -- here's hoping that the best guy is a sharp young MSU alumnus who has been in athletics departments for the better part of 20 years now, and who was groomed personally for the job by a ninja.

I think he is taking the right approach on this by going through the national search, which I think is legit, but in the end will reveal candidates that we all knew were interested, or maybe their is a wildcard.
