I keep hearing Sean Woods as a potential hire for us.

He wants the job, but I just don't see it happening. I think we would be on our 2nd or 3rd tier of candidates.
He runs the Stands Stall almost as good as Stans did. He almost lost in the SWC final to Tex Southern and did lose in the NCAA vs WKU running the stall.
Sean does have some good recruiting connections, but I think he lacks the coaching experience and overall basketball knowledge to be our next basketball coach.
One good year in the SWAC does not make an SEC Head Basketball coach..

Woods has alot of upside and a bright future- but he is on down the list.

I'm hearing we have been genuinely surprised at the options available for the job- just got to work thru it

I like the guy, but the next step on his career ladder is the Sunbelt. I agree with Coach34. We may have him on a list and we may even interview him. But it's just a courtesy and to head off a potential false cry of racism. I can't believe he'd be a serious candidate.

If so, that is wonderful news. Does that suggest that some of the bigger names we contacted showed more interest than we may have thought, or that we actually may have had some nice names contact Us? Or both?

I really think this is going to be a tough hire for Stricklin because, unlike some on this board, I feel like this job can bring in a higher quality coach than most people believe. That's why they pay him the big bucks though, hopefully he does as good a job as he did with football, or better

if Woods was coaching at a decent mid-major, he would be top 3 for sure

I'd say Woods is alot like Hud was during football search- a guy you really like, but you just cant hire at this time

He was involved every step of the way," said Byrne, who is now the
athletic director at Arizona. "The reality is, when it comes to making a
major decision, you need to keep a couple of people close. You need to
trust their opinion."<span class="aa"></span><span class="pp"></span>By most accounts, it was primarily a two-man committee comprised of Byrne and Stricklin.
