I kind of like Tillerson's tone toward N. Korea

never thought I'd say it, but I like the decision to not measure dicks here. NK has done this song and dance for my entire lifetime. Maybe we should just shut the karaoke machine down. I'm not advocating war, but the "my daddy's tougher" bs back and forth is just ridiculous at this point.

See if that great "deal maker" can get China to commit though.

I agree. It would not be good if that turned into a shooting war again though. The South would get roughed up pretty bad. Seoul is close enough to the DMZ that it would get hit a lot. The south would have to destroy a lot of infrastructure to slow the mechanized advance.

So ... you guys are OK with spinning up a crazy, immature dictator with hundreds of thousands of equally crazy followers to the point where he decides an invasion is his best option ... but you say it wouldn't be good to start a war in Korea. Got it. That said, the South has built its infrastructure north of Seoul partly for the very purpose of stalling any advance. Also, the ROK army won't need much help from us to whip Kim on the ground if he does attack, but it will be a helluva bloody business for a while.

My point is that the craziness is just that. Invasion his only option? He knows, even with all that craziness mucking up his head, that any invasion ends in his demise. He just wants recognition as a nuclear power, and either we say yes or no to that. The sanctions have not deterred him, the UN has not deterred him, but yet every year its threat vs. threat.....test vs. sanction. I'd be against any war, really, but something's got to change.

I hear you, but you're attempting to apply rational thinking to an irrational and immature dictator. Also correct that a lot of his posturing is just that -- "look at me, I'm relevant!" -- or who knows, the inbred idiot may actually believe his own propaganda about winning a war. And unfortunately the Chinese won't help beyond finger-wagging -- if that -- because they don't want a flood of starving North Koreans coming over their border. If I had the answer I'd be buying a ticket to the Nobel ceremony.
