but we got a nice win tonght over South Alabama 9-5. I was really pleased with how we put some runs up on the board, and I was also happy to see Luke Bole and Kendall Graveman both have a solid outing against a quality team.

Nice pre-SBW start, I guess.

Also good to see Brent Tanner again. He played for us in 07, I believe and transferred to Meridian and then South Alabama.

Honestly, we really need a sweep of UT. Realistically, I would be happy with a series win, though. We just need to take it one game at a time.

I know we won, Todd, but USA played Nicholls yesterday. Just wondering how thin their pitching was tonight?

is thin no matter what, to be honest with you. They have a lot of guys with very high ERA's- like the the guy that started for them tonight had an ERA in the 9's. They only had one or two guys that had respectable ERA's coming into tonight.

But, that said, at least we did what we were supposed to do to them, and that's hit and put runs on the board.

One very positive thing- South Alabama is a very good hitting team. They had about seven guys hitting well over .300 coming into tonight, and our freshmen did a pretty good job with them tonight. Especially Graveman, who has really struggled lately, and that was good to see.

All of this is off the top of my head, so I might get totally served for not doing research, but I did look at their stats last night.

Yep, and again Kendall, the young freshman has a good outing - i'm already dreaming of dominance from the pitchers in a few years.

I don't fall in the "don't care because I am pissed " category , I'm in the " Pissed BECAUSE I care" category.

as crazy as it sounds, I haven't given up on something positive happening. Baseball can be a game of streaks so you just never know.Last year's teamkind of put it together and played competitive ball the last fewseries so hopefully, we can figure some things out this second half of the season. If Routt can get back quick and get somewhere close to last year's form we'll be much better off because these freshmen pitchers are just going to keep getting better each time out. That of course will still do nothing for our hitting woes but I'm clinging to hope that we'll go to a lineup more geared towards production. We can't afford Frost, Ogden, Collins, and whoever is catching (Freeman or Thigpen) in the same order every game. Collins and Ogden both have good gloves but that's it. That's pretty much the theme and problemwith this entire team. Way too many what I would call 1 facet players and not enough complete skill levels.

about the line up tonight- Ryan Duffy batting second. And it worked out pretty well I must say.

I still don't like Frost in the lineup right now. Although, he had a decent night.

Like someone said before, Collins struggled early and hit better late in the year, so maybe that trend will continue.

Because it means that our pitching can hold people to five runs or less at least half the time. That's a big improvement over last year. It also means that when we do pitch well, we generally can score enough to win the game.

Also, I have a theory that a team should try to score at least five runs a game, because if you do that, you should win a majority of the time unless you have just horrible pitching.
