fight with schools such as bama, lsu, georgia, etc. for athletes, but It does feel damn good not to be having to butt heads with tulane, duke, uab and memphis.

Too bad it took Croom til year 5 to learn it. In his defense, he did give Mullen a damn good recruiting class to start with.

If we had Bumphis, Patterson, Thames, Conner, etc for next year, our offense would look the same. Mullen will utilize the talent that he has. Instead of throwing to Delmon Robinson only once per game. Mullen might look at him more and get him in space. When Croom tried to change up the offense, he would bring Arceto in to run a damn reverse. If Croom was still here and did land these guys we have committed and still coached with the same ole round peg square hole approach, people would be really pissed next year.

and there's also the element of the coach getting "his" type players in, whatever type that may be. The only way to become a big boy is to start acting like one.

In football, I personally don't think we're that far behind. Let me rephrase that, we can considerably close the gap just by getting off our asses and doing something, unlike we did under LT. It's as much the fanbase's fault as it is the athletic department. We decide if we want to be relevant. Even in the Jackie years we were still doing things the cheap way.

But now, the money is getting there. Got to fill up those seats next fall.

With the probation, the bad Jackie years, I can understand why we had trouble recruiting. There's not a mother17-er on this planet that can say one bad thing about our program now. Croom left it clean as a whistle and did indeed have a good class put together. It is nice to competing for folks that only have offers from Alabama State.

Agreed, unfortunately Starkville has a huge disadvantage that most other SEC universities, with the exception of Ole Miss, dont have. All of the others schools can pretty much fill their facilities with the fans who live in that county, or parish.

The Mississippi schools must do some traveling, so it takes more effort for our fans to show their support. However, 2007 should clearly show that if we have any sign of life on the field then the fans will be there. I believe 4 of the 6 games were at about 90% capacity or more.

There should be no reason that we should not have a record breaking yearly attendance this year with our home opponents

if Croom chased his "diamonds in the rough" to prove that he was such a great coach that he didn`t need great players.

Another chance did come, however, when the head coach of Mississippi State University (MSU) resigned. MSU wanted Croom, but he was not so sure. Burned by the Alabama incident, he was also <font color="#003399">wary</font> of being hired only as an <font color="#003399">enticement</font> to black football recruits. "After our first interview, I made it very clear that if that's what the expectations were, then they needed to look for another coach," Croom told the Knight-Ridder/Tribune News Service. He continued, "But, during that second interview, they made me feel I was the best coach available. That was important to me."</p>
