talk so much after the 3rd out of the inning, that way they can get the commercials done in time not to miss the entire 1st hitter of each inning?

I used to call baseball games, and it is nothing more than Jim not throwing it to the break quick enough. Seems like we miss the 1st hitter every inning.

But I'm just being picky now, I guess.

Been doing that for years.

Yep... 35 years before they "sped up" the college game last year... Jim hasn't adjusted all that well just yet.

I imagine it's just heightened today because of how quickly Graveman has worked and how early in the counts he's gotten outs...

There is so much that bothers me about Jin it's crazy

Jim does a good job and has for a long time, but there are many things about him that make me want to pull my hair out. I feel like his sinuses are going to explode all over the booth every time he does a game.

I'd rather listen to Jim call a game than almost anyone else I've heard (college baseball). He has some quirks that will drive you crazy, but baseball is his sport.

I wouldn't take anyone for what Jim does for baseball broadcasts. He loves baseball and it's obvious. Nevertheless it seems that we could do a lot better on the football. He is simply boring on the football broadcasts. As far as basketball I don't care one way or the other.

I just dont like the fact that he doesnt use the theory that Jack started with.

Tell them the score, the time left in the game. repeat. You can wait FOREVER after a run crosses the plate to know what the score is.

He's a color man and a damn good one. He needs a person with him that does or fills the role of the play by play guy.

If you listen carefully, you can hear him set the timer on his digital watch before he goes to a break. He will say, "back in 60 seconds after a message from ________." Then he clicks the watch. It just seems like a very old way of doing things, but this year has been the worst that I can remember with action taking place before getting back from the commercial break. Today, we got two outs before they got back from the commercial. HailStateTV has gotten better, but they need to get back from the break faster. (Same audio feed, I know.)

That was a little harsh. I'm a big fan of Jim, that's really my only complaint.
Let me be less harsh. I hope that you are in a dunk booth when Burke Masters comes up. As he winds up Jim Ellis is close by and regales Mr. Masters with a yarn about how the booth was originated by the General Manager of the Huntsville Santa Fe's and Masters is sent into a mild comotose state and hurls the ball greatly left and hits you in the balls. Ellis screams "It's a ball slam for Masters!" Of course Masters feels bad being a priest and all.

Yeah, other than missing the first batter, my beef would be that of you turn on the radio during the first batter of a half inning, you don't get the score until that half is done (unless someone scores). Seems like forever if you are just tuning in.

Ha, if I'm the first dunk booth contestant of the inning, then nobody would hear the call of me getting hit in the balls, because we would still be in a commercial break.***
