I know we've had this discussion before but it was a topic on TIOS last week...

I think that's far less important than

having an OL that can consistently protect him. And if it weren't for him having the worst game of his career in the gator bowl, this conversation wouldn't come up so much.

Also, I think his ceiling is about the same as it would be for about any other coach - most coaches would have tried replacing Tyler after watching him go out there and play like a scared little wiener his first 2 years.

???? When has Tyler played scared? If anything, he is too willing to stand in the pocket and take a hit. Outside of the Gator Bowl, has he just **** the bed in any game?

Tyler's main problem is he is playing against SEC defenses without SEC receivers other than Bumphis and zero deep threats. His next biggest problem is that while our O-line did ok in pass protection (in 2012; 2011 was a different story), it's not good enough to generate a running game that will open up the passing game. We had other issues going on with our O that I didn't understand, but for the most part, we moved the ball passing against defenses that our receivers could get space against (i.e., non-sec quality defenses) and struggled otherwise. If we don't have a deep threat step up this year, it will likely not be much better and could be worse if there is not enough improvement somewhere in the wr corp to replace Bumphis' production.

Do you not remember his Fr or So years?

The biggest knock on him was always how he got rattled easily and lacked confidence.

Do you?

Didn't he lead us on our only TD drives against LSU & Alabama his sophomore year? He's tough and doesn't rattle easily. Those are his strengths. His footwork and his mobility in pocket (and out of pocket) are his weaknesses. Anyone who thinks he gets rattled easily isn't watching the games.

The TD drives against LSU and Bama are what I remember most. Otherwise, I don't remember him making mistakes that weren't normal for a redshirt freshman and sophomore. You have to consider that as a sophomore we had a **** line to go along with our subpar receivers and he had a senior qb looking over his shoulder. I thought he handled it like a champ for the most part.

I just hate it looks like he's not going to get the benefit of a good deep threat his entire career here. While we obviously have weaknesses at other places, I think that's the only real hole on offense this year and it's going to prevent him from really showing what he can do.

Which ceiling are you talking about?

Are you talking about wins, stats or pro potential?

As far as wins - I think yes; I don't see how he can lead his team to 9 wins next year.

Stats - I think yes; I don't see how he eclipses the numbers from last year while losing some pretty decent WR's and replacing them with more physical, slower WR's.

Pro Potential - No, I think he can have a solid year this year and make himself draft eligible if y'all run more under center plays and develop a more pro-style attack. I don't think that gives you the best chance to win games, but I think its the best chance for Russell to get drafted.

I don't know what Tyler Bray's draft projection is, but in my opinion Russell has a better pro skill set than Bray. He stays in the pocket, has a strong arm, is fairly accurate and has solid pocket presence. He also adjusts well based on defensive scheme. With his height and arm, I think he is a perfect fit for a pro style offense.

Honestly, if he had been the QB at LSU last year I think they win the National Title. I also think his numbers would be really good and he would a 1st-3rd round pick depending on how the season progresses.

You remember the TDs, but is that all you remember?

I also remember him throwing 3 INTs against LSU in '10, and Getting sacked about once every 7 attempts in '11. He grew up tremendously before his Junior year. He seemed to take a step back in the gator bowl, but everyone has an off day.

I'm excited about his senior year. He's the best QB we've ever had, and he needs to make a mark. If he goes 0for against ole miss as a starter, that will be a damn shame.
