I love Dudy Noble, but it is time to refit her a bit...

So where do we start? What is our list in order of priority (outside of obviously getting better at baseball, lol)?

baseball just doesn't generate the revenue that makes it worth it right now with the football expansion on the horizon.

And while DNF is not what it used to be, its still a top 10 venue.

But when it happens, I anticipate a major overhaul as opposed to a retrofit.

hopefully one of the first things we do is great rid of the bleachers and extend the grandstands. But again it will be awhile, because we have to start winning again and start getting more people to come back out for the games.

I agree with the above poster - DNF won't have much done to it until it's totally revamped.

The options are limited. Can't change the outfield. The bleachers are basically the only option, unless they want to add skyboxes.

there is limited room underneath and absolutely no view of the game when you are underneath. The skyboxes look awful and flood. And we need a bigger, nicer press box.

I would get comfortable with the football finances from expansion and then do a long term fundraising plan for a new stadium. That's a long enough time that hopefully someone can the program winning again and make fundraising easier.

However, if you retrofit the current, ole miss is the model b/c their original grandstand was an exact replica of our current grandstand.

I heard Greg Byrne address this one time. He said the sky boxes were so poorly built that they would essentially need to be torn down and rebuilt from scratch. Thanks LT!

but I think Byrne mentioned it just before he left. And then I've been told that from people who do sit up there.

First of all, LT didn't build the skyboxes. This usually done by the low bidder, because people get all bent out of shape if the athletic dept negotiates with a contractor they feel will do a good job.

Everything else looks thrown together. The bleachers look high schoolish and have bad sight lines. The luxury boxes were just thrown up there. The outfield is fun, but is an eyesore. Never thought I'd see the day where the rest of the SEC West has passed us by in baseball stadiums.

Blow up the grandstand, and build a much more modern grandstand with better sightlines that goes all the way down the foul lines. It will be easier to add on the skyboxes and a new pressbox. We need new concession stands and a new ticket office as well.

And since I love home runs- maybe we could bring the fences in, or at least close in the power alleys and add to the LFL.

It would probably be cheaper to just rebuild than renovate in the longrun.

foul pole to foul pole. There is no need to try to build something that will hold 14,000 for a 2-3 game series once every 4-5 years.

We have the advantage of having almost unlimited seating- sort of- in the outfield.

If we start to draw more than that, we can always add on if necessary.

I much imagine any large renovation will either involve stripping the stadium down to bare bones or starting from scratch. I do think the grandstands in place now are adequate for renovation, but any renovation will probably be substantial at least. Simply adding seats past the original structure is probably not being considered.

We hold the 17ing on campus record of all 17ing time. That is right. We are the top of all 17ing time. To build ANYTHING that is less than that is to pretty much negate that.

17 you and anyone who would support it being less than that.

but the "build it and they will come" does not work in baseball. I have been to MANY games over the last 6 years and only the Clemson games for the Super Regional were capacity crowds. Even SBW games don't push capacity, particularly for the grandstands and outfield bleachers. Impressive structures and size don't impress when butts aren't in seats.

more than 6,000 for at least SBW? I seem to remember very recently crowds somewhere around 9,000 even.

People have been going to the baseball game regardless at least on that weekend.

if you build it, they will come... but seriously we needmore than 6000. I think we hold something like 18 of the top 25 attendance records so 6000 is not enough

but my point was the grandstands have never been full for a SBW game (except for the Clemson games), particularly the bleacher seats. So, even though you are correct in attendance, I believe most of that comes from people in LFL and standing room in right field. Just my opinion.

is that there ARE people having to stand when there ARE seats available in the grandstand.

That just proves my point about why the lifetime contracts for season tickets were a horrible idea- not that anyone disagreed.

to an extent. (In the past) for SEC games, they close off the grandstands where only season ticket holders can access in the grandstands until the top of the 5th inning, then they open them up for students and average joe fans. I hate the current system because the grandstands are NEVER full. For the super regional, they actually sold the excess seats (after offering them to the season ticket holders) for something like $30 a game (thats what I did). They also offered general admission and standing room only tickets. I do think they need to get rid of the contracted seats because it looks bad when we have a mostly empty grandstand and LFL and bleachers are relatively full. I still think that even with smaller grandstands, we will seldomly fully fill them (so long as we have LFL... and actually RF is relatively popular among students because of heckling opportunities).

Whoever said that it was is just wrong. Whenever we rennovate, we have to make the grandstands more modern. Start the rows at ground level, have a lower grandstand, like arky and SC, and then put skyboxes farther down the lines. People will buy sky boxes at MSU. We need to get rid of the six foot rise of the bleachers. It makes for bad sight lines and makes it doesn't look like a nice stadium on television either. One day Ole Miss will be mad that they didn't do this when the entire SEC has the modern grandstand and they don't.
