I may be alone here, but I see reasons for optimism this fall

OFFENSE

QB - Tyson Lee, while tiny compared to most SEC QBs, he displays excellent leadership qualities and may prove to be very effective in Mullen's system, he is very talented...Russell and Lawrence may get some snaps this fall too and both have great potential
RB - Anthony Dixon - could be ALL-SEC and is the lightest and most fit since he has been at MSU, he is going to be fantastic in Mullen's offense I think...excellent depth at this position and we will be fine here...I can't wait to see Choo Choo and Perkins as well, Ducre will be solid and Elliot may come back and contribute some
FB - Shumpert maybe? he was a pretty highly rated recruit and I am assuming he is going to fill in here...could be one of the of the most solid positions on our squad if he plays to his potential
WR - Delmon Robinson will be our most talented option and that isn't saying a whole lot, he could be outstanding but still is very unproven...Brandon McRae will be back to 100% before the end of spring and we really need him to play like he did last year...hopefully Arceto Clark will get his off the field issues in order because we need him badly...expect us to rely on a lot of incoming freshmen in this position (if I were to pick one position to use freshmen it would be WR)...still a position for a lot of concern, could be great but still a LOT of unknowns
TE - Marcus Green could be ALL-SEC but still an unknown and unproven, Henderson and Hurst will be backing him up
OL - I honestly think this could be one of our strong points - LT Sherrod LG - Jenkins C - Brignone/Looney RG - Hardy RT - T. Smith....have some that could really step it up to provide depth (Melichar, Merritt, Saulsberry, Watts) Watts is supposedly in excellent shape and is with the team now and he could play a factor...I think this could be one of the best units we have seen in a while with an emphasis on could

DEFENSE

DL - Kyle Love, McPhee, L Williams, Burns are all SEC quality players right now, Prince, Cooper, McCardell, Odom, Stigers, Bell, etc...no big reason for concern in this area
LB - I think our players in this position are outstanding, Chaney would be playing for any other SEC team and is 100%, KJ Wright is probably my favorite player on defense, he is an unbelievable talent...we have **** C. White which is a JUCO could play a big factor...Brown, Hunt, and J. Jones will all provide quality depth
DB - an area of concern particularly at CB position...ALL-SEC A. Johnson is supposed to be back this fall and we need him badly, Washington has some SEC experience but he has been torched in the backfield a lot...could be improved, Bonner, Broomfield, Anderson, etc...some of them will have to step it up, losing Langston was a blow to us....Safety position will be great though, Charles Mitchell is potential ALL-SEC and Z. Smith will play a factor as well

All of this does not really take into consideration many of our newcomers, which was an extremely good recruiting class...I am not expecting us to be competing for titles next year but I don't see any reason why we can't field a pretty solid team. Anybody else have any thoughts? Never too early to start discussing football.....

Sorry if I forgot to mention him in the QB rotation. He may be able to contribute some.

I think our first 22 are fairly solid but depth is a major concern at several positions. Also, relying on true freshman to be contributors in the SEC is a scary proposition. Luckily, WR is one of the easier positions for freshmen to contribute.

Our special teams cost us 2 games last year. Surely the two JUCO kickers will be an improvement (they certainly can't be any worse), but we still need to find a return man.

We have an improved coaching staff, improved special teams, and a veteran offensive back field, but the schedule is absolutely Brutal. I think 5 wins is possible.

5-7 in Mullen's transition year would be a very good season. 6-6 would be outstanding

I don't see six wins on this schedule five is a possibility, but I'm going to go with 4-8.
