I propose an olive branch of peace to the OM posters that frequent this board...

Can we agree that:

If Mississippi State wins the Battle for the Golden Egg - OM fans (pertaining to this board) will admit that Merlins owns that *** and does with it as he pleases.

If Ole Miss wins the Battle for the Golden Egg - State fans will admit that Freeze is a pretty good coach and OM has shown marked improvement signaling a bright future.

Seems like a fair trade to me.

The way I see it, the Freeze line is true no matter if Ole Miss wins or not. It will be more evident with a win, but its obvious that he has changed that team in a very short time.

If Mullen beats OM 4 times in a row then the State statement will be true also.

Wouldn't really have to. It is what it is.....

Ole Miss won't even concede that our on-campus enrollment is bigger than theirs. Who cares? It's still true.

I don't know.... Whats been his best win so far this season? I'm not flaming... I'm just trying to see the improvement. I think a win over State will give him something tangible to point to.

Well BMT, they won an SEC game and didn't lose to Jacksonville State so I would say that is improvement.

Have you watched the team at all or are you just going off the record? The reason I ask is there is no way you can watch this team and not a large difference in play. Ole Miss was picked to win 2-3 games at max at the preseason and even many people thought UTEP might beat them. There is a completely different attitude on that team this year then the last 2.

Improve is a relative term. Have they really improved from 2010? I don't think so. 2011 is an aberration. The coach was fired with 4 games left, and those games were lost before the whistle. Remember, they theoretically should have beaten Arkansas who was a national title contender last year.

They haven't quit. That's about all I can say for them. If they beat us, then they have improved. I'm not giving them credit for ALMOST knocking off a few teams. That's what losing teams point to.

You mean that 2010 team that lost to Jaksonville State? Yes I do believe they are better then that.

I've seen them play a little. Most of my opinion of OM comes from the second half of the LSU game which is the most I've seen of them this year. Honestly, overall record forms 80% of my opinion. Ill say this, suffering through 5 years of the Crooms era, I hold no stock in moral victories. I hold no stock in close losses. If Mullen had gone 5 and whatever in 09 and had NOT beaten OM to finish up the year, would it be considered an improved year?

Like I said before, beating us gives the OM base something tangible to point at. Mullen owning the Egg for 4 years gives us something to point towards.

LOL. His best win is the same team that is Mullen's best win this year - Arkansas. Most of you people live in a delusional world. Las Vegas has made the Rebels favored to win. If you read most of the comments on this board, you would think that the Dawgs were favored by 20.

seriously...did you see us play last year.....if you don't see the improvement then you're disqualified from the discussion. we may still not be great but suggesting he hasn't done a major turnaround is dumb. we've gone from embarrassing to something a lot better. how much? now that's a fair argument.

State just needs to focus on the game and the rest of this stuff will take care of itself. They probably feel the same way about their team...ain't no olive branch going to emerge...things are what they are.

Here's the thing... Ole Miss does look better... but to what extent? You guys were picked to 2 to 3 games this year... and if Arkansas and Auburn didn't trot out their worst teams in more than a decade, you'd be at 3 wins right now. Freeze beat them more because they sucked... not because yall are better.

Difference is, Ole Miss has had about an equal schedule to last year and MSU has had a much easier schedule then last year.

Uhh.... yeah!? Do you remember who our other 7 losses came to in 09? That means we would have beaten 1 of either Houston, GT, LSU, Auburn, Alabama, Arkansas or Florida.... We could have beaten ANY one of those teams and we'd still consider that a much more impressive season than we thought we'd come out of with or without beating Ole Miss.

Give me a break--of course OM is better than the past two years. They were losing to Jacksonville two years ago, and everybody last year. Were you worried about even the possibility they would beat us in the past three years? At the beginning of the year, we counted them as an automatic W--now, I think we'll win, but it's not a given. Last year, teams (including us) were taking knees with alot of time on the board--if Vandy, aTm and LSU had taken knees with a minute left, they would have lost. Every team that beat them this year (and us, too, for that matter) is going bowling and looking at 8 or more Ws this year. They don't suck like they did. That doesn't, however, make them any less obnoxious. In fact, they were far less obnoxious when they were losing every game by 30+ points.

Who gives a **** about the schedule comparisons? It's all about beating teams you're supposed to and not losing to team's you're not. You losing to Vandy was a big, big blow. You're supposed to beat Vandy, but you never do.

We were supposed to beat Auburn, TN, and Arkansas this year, and we did. Before the season, there was an argument for us beating aTm, but after they pulled out their heisman QB, that loss doesn't look nearly as bad as it did earlier.

Vandy is a much better team this year then they have been in the past. I would definitely say we should have been them in 2008 and even in 2010, but they have been and are ranked higher then us this year. They also dominated a Tenn team that took MSU to the last min with a very good defensive play saving your dogs from a sure defeat. No one saw Ole Miss beating Aub or Ark, and some people had Ole Miss losing to UTEP, so to put it that way, Ole Miss has won 3 games no one expected them to this year.

Who cares about schedule comparisons??? What--do you want Boise State to go to a BCS bowl every year? When you're in the SEC, the strength of your schedule is what gives you a bowl bid over a 12-0 C-USA team. Gimme a break!
