I realize it is a huge stretch...

But I haven't seen anyone mention Mike Leach as a possible candidate. Seems like before Croom left, Leach's name was all over the place as someone who wanted to get back to the SEC, etc... Is he a possibility (even as a longshot) or did I miss something?

I may be wrong about this, but I think Leach is holding out for one of the major BCS programs. He's already at a mid to lower level BCS program, and I don't think he'd leave for another. He definitely wants out of Lubbock, but he wants to get a major program coaching position.

That said, if you guys could land him, he'd be a great hire. He's the type of coach that would always have you competitive and winning. I wouldn't count on him for national titles, but he'd give you the shot on occasion to compete for the conference title, which is all you can ask.

I think he's out of our league. He has elevated himself to another level. Other than being in the SEC, we don't offer any advantages over Texas Tech. I think Auburn might be a possibility if they can Tubs.

In all fairness, if you're going on this year which is what most job jumpers look at, we're in the Top 3rd of the SEC.

But you're right, throughout history we're only 11th all time nationwide in bowl wins.

Just sayin'.

</p>Yeah, when you guys hired the Orgeron, you chose him from a long line of coaches chomping at the bit to lead a team with a rich history of bowl victories in the 50s and 60s.

No, actually I think recent success is a bigger factor.

In addition to Erickson and Neuheisel, we had the same old mid-tier guys knocking on our door-----West, Bower, Hatcher, Hudspeth (or whatever his name is at UNA I think)....and at the time Leach, but Leach has stepped up a notch since then no doubt.
