I realized after we played La. Teach and UAB that we...

<p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal">weren't a very good football team. Although, we are a lot better than we have been under the Croom years were we had no chance and would have killed to be 6-6 and headed to a bowl. We are <place><placename>Miss.</placename> <placetype>State,</placetype></place> and youshould embracea 9-4 and a 6-6 record with two consecutive bowl bids.

Here's a quick list of the issues I see that need to be corrected:</p><p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal"></p>

</p>1. Quality O-line with depth.
2. Big play receiver taller than six feet.
3. A corner that can play man instead of 10-15 yards off a receiver and d-coach never adjusting.
4. Linebackers who can move laterally and shed a block without getting caught up in "traffic."
5. Effective play-calling- (A coach should never remove a QB in the middle of a successful drive, with the exception of limited goal lineinstances)
6. Motivation from our coaching staff- (The demeanor of our coaches and players seem lackadaisical)

we arent bad. To wit:

How many of the teams above us in the polls, given our schedule would acheive better?

You are dead on with points 1, 4, and 5

2. we actually have a couple of these guys but didnt use them correctly or werent willing to pull the redshirt. Looks like a smart move on the redshirtbecause we are going to be in a bowl and their presence would have only upgraded our bowl from music city to chick fil a. I do think we need to shock the world and pull down a 4-5 star 6-3 guy though.
3. that's the way he calls the defense, and right now, I dont have one damn problem with it. It is the ONLY reason we will be in a bowl.
6. motivational speeches mean exactly nothing. And you need to attend a practice in august to talk about the demeanor of our coaches. I watched Mullen dog cuss Keoning like a ***** in front of everyone. THere is no lackadaisical attitude. Might be incompetence though.

Not happy with where we are, but to me 6-6 in any year is baseline success at MSU. We easily could be 4-8 this year, but we aren't, and that's a testament to Mullen. Both King Jackie and Croom regularly lost to lesser opponents.

..(granted, I only looked at 2) had MSU going 7-5 this season.

If MSU wins the Egg Bowl, MSU goes 6-6, which is only 1 loss worse than what the "experts" predicted.

I was expecting much better than 6-6, but funny how the guys who are more objective in their assessments did not see 8-4 or 9-3 happening.

If MSU wins the Egg Bowl & then wins the bowl game, the 7 win season will be achieved.

Concerning point #2, if the guys weren't used correctly on D then it’s the coach’s responsibility. Also, if we could have gotten a couple of more wins by burning a few red shirts then the coaches should have played them. I don't necessarily believe that but that's your argument. But I know for a fact that we played zone and played at least 10-15 yards off of the <state><place>Arkansas</place></state> receivers and it looked like an NCAA X-Box game with <city><place>Wilson</place></city> shredding our secondary. Why didn't <city><place>Wilson</place></city> make a 17ing adjustment after their 3rd TD pass?

Point #6 Mullen talks a lot ofnoise and needs to start backing it up, period. He hasn't won a big game yet. Florida, Georgia and Michigan last year do not count becuase none of those teams were very good last year.

This doesn't mean I want him gone, but I will agree with you about the possibility that we have incompetent coaches on both sides of the ball. But as I said in my first post, I enjoy having greater expections, and we should enjoy going to bowl games.</p>

#2. we didnt use wide receivers correctly (carr and Johnson) but keeping the redshirt on one for next year was correct as it would have made little or no difference. I wasnt including defense on this point

#6. ? I do think he's won big games.

He beat cotton bowl bound Ole Miss in 2009. dont like to admit that one? fine. But he did and it was the origin of our reason to be cocky at all.
He beat florida at florida. 1967 was the last time that happened no matter how good or bad they were. And no matter how many fans of Ole Miss want to remind you that florida was 'down', they were coached by Urban Meyer, and they subsequently went to a bowl and beat the **** out of Penn State.
He beat georgia last year. No matter what **** um fans want to say, he went to a bowl last year, and he is going to one this year and won the east.
He beat UK so we could get to a bowl in 2010.....remember, they werent chicken **** last year either.

You can hang your hat on the losses to Ark, LSu, AUB and Bama the last 3 years if you need to. There are 3 national championships there. How many of the top 20 would have had a better record against those 4 in the last 3 years given what Mullen inherited?

<p style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt" class="MsoNormal">I probably should have said "signature wins" instead of big games because it's all relative. I'll give Mullen another couple of years to develop and recruit the talent that it takes to make us competitive year in and year out. Knocking off Bama and LSU may be a stretch but I would like to see us be able to beat <state><place>Arkansas</place></state> and <city><place>Auburn</place></city> more frequently.</p>
