So I made the mistake of participating in the comments section of Veazey's blog today. The article was about stadium expansion. Some idiot said that in order to go forward with stadium expansion, we need either a winning season or a new coach next year. For some reason, I couldn't let that one go, so I told him what a dubmass he was. Asked him why he would be ready to can Mullen after 2 seasons when we gave Sly 5 years.

Little did I know, the Gene's Pagers were lurking in the shadows, waiting to attack.

They proceeded to inform me that I was too harsh in calling Croom an idiot. After all, he built a great foundation for our current football program, and Mullen walked in to a great situation. They said all of this year's players are here because of Croom, and that he was "a hell of a recruiter." Croom was a great coach, but he just couldn't put it together, etc., etc.

What the 17 is wrong with these people?

It's where dumbasses go to voice their opinions because nobody will listen to them in person.

These are people who are either too dumb to find a message board or are so ignorant no message board will let them hang around. They like the newspaper comments because the paper will censor and prevent any real discussion (kinda like Gene's Page!).

Genie's boys. Some people have something stuck so far up their ***, they don't even realize how asinine their thoughts are.

he cleaned up a program that desperately needed cleaning up and he did leave Mullen with a decent foundation to build on.But he was still one of the worst head coaches the SEC has ever seen.

so I'm not trying to pick a fight.

I must disagree. He left Mullen Dixon. That's about it.

And he is not one of the worst, he was the worst.

Remember 2007? He left him much to work with sans QB and WR.

I still say that if not for the gun wielding incident, we'd have been in back to back bowl games ourselves - even with Croom's terrible game day coaching.

I hate many of your fans too.

The CL comments section should be targeted by mafia hitmen until they are all disposed of and out of the gene pool.

Those comments sound almost exactly like what people said about Felker after his days were over. I think Felker was a better recruiter, but Croom managed to win more big games than Rockey and actually went to a bowl. Of course, there were fewer bowls in the 80's, so that's not really all that fair.

The reality is Croom probably wasn't as horrible as he is made out to be, not saying that he was good by any stretch of the imagination, but the good things that he did- like upgrade our facilities, not getting a lot of credit for the 07 season and some wins like Florida in 04, are overshadowed by some of the things that he said and did- like telling our fans that he didn't care what we thought. You just can't say stuff like that and not issue an apology. It's going to take people a long time for a lot of our fans to forgive that, if they ever do.

And I remember after Felker was fired, he made the comment- "I guess people just want to win too much". I was like, well, no ****. Who wants to lose? You're paid to win.

But just like with Felker, there are always going to be people that choose to remember the good and forget the bad. Now, they aren't going to post that on here because they are going to get lambasted by the sixpack, but I wouldn't be surprised if there are a lot of people that feel that way and just don't post it here. I will say that lucky or not, I enjoyed the 07 season because we had a good year, and a pretty good team. Regardless of who the coach was, I will never forget that goal line stand against Bama that ended with a 100 yard TD, and I won't forget Derek Pegues and his punt return in the Egg Bowl that year, or the Liberty Bowl.

So, I guess it just comes down to what you choose and want to remember from it. Just like some people probably haven't forgiven Jackie for his last three years, and most choose to remember the good years like 98 and 99.

He recruited most of our dline and LBing group.

He sucked as a coach and wasn't a world beater in recruiting but he left a solid foundation for Mullen. If you don't believe that then i guess we are gonna suck again this year, correct? B/c you don't take over an SEC football team and start being competitive in years 1 and 2 unless you have some talent already in place.
