I really think we make E8

That is an incorrect statement. I’ve been following UK since I can remember back to the 80’s probation years. I have never missed a televised game. So my coping mechanism is to hope for a win but expect a loss. Because that is what this team has done to us all year.
I understand your sentiment, but it's not fun to follow a team going into games hoping for wins, but expecting losses.
That is an understandable approach for KY football, perhaps, but not basketball. Surely, you think we're better than that.

I have UK making the E8 in my only bracket because, why not?

Now, that’s COMPLETELY dependent on every member of the team taking a, “I don’t want the season to end”, attitude and Pope leaving the best players on the floor, who exhibit that attitude… Anything less, and SC could send them home in body bags on Friday.

I'm just not getting my hopes up had them losing in the first game in one bracket and advancing just 1 game in another bracket, I just don't have any faith in this team at all this year.

How much $$ did you put down on these brackets? You would get very nice odds on UK advancing S16 and up, so if you're confident, you should talk with the wallet.

I've put down ~$500 total in futures bets, none of them involve UK. I don't think they'll get past R32. We'll see.

If we can somehow get past Iowa State,
then yeah I could see it. Virginia isn’t terribly scary and we’ve beaten UT twice already (yes, I know it’s the same scenario as last year).

I don't gamble so your gotcha attempt doesn't work

Would any of us really be surprised with any outcome we produce in this tournament?? Nothing would surprise me. I’m thinking one win and then out. Hoping for better. 😊

I love your enthusiasm and your hope. I wish I shared it. I’ve convinced myself if we lose Friday it’s not the end of the world. Hopefully apathy is starting to kick in.
That’s the one and only positive from the last 7-8+ years of Cal and Pope. I went from an absolute UK basketball nut who would never miss a minute of any game and would be fighting mad when we lost to now I don’t even get upset at losses anymore. I probably only even watched half the games this year and i definitely don’t care as much as I used to.

Part of me is sad that I no longer have that same feeling for UK basketball but another part is almost glad in a way. I spent too much money on UK related stuff and let it control too much of my daily life.

I really don't lol.
I am hoping we beat SC but that is a tough stylistic matchup for us. Iowa State would be the end of the road IMO. I would almost like our chances better in the S16 than the prior game

My take is this minus the almost. UT we might fare better a third time vs. them this year compared to last year since this year we have the same guard profile as in our first two games and also maybe Pope learned something useful about Barnes' Take Three strategy. Iowa State, otoh, a team that beat Houston...not gonna hold my breath we have a snowflake's chance in Hell beating them. Best best is hope Tennessee State somehow pulls an Oakland on them.

We're not losing to Santa freaking Clara. Good grief
Although I agree with you, I’ve seen some models that run simulations and actually have Santa Clara as the favorite. I’m not saying it is most, but it’s way more likely than it should be and we have had much better teams (with the previous coach) lose games that were much larger upsets.

OK you don't gamble but for any of your opinions to mean anything, you need to assume some risk if said opinions don't end up materializing. So your "risk" is looking like an idiot on a message board. Great -- that applies to everyone that posts here, myself included.

Right now, you would make 13x of your wager ($100 would net you $1300) if UK make the Elite Eight. They make the FF, you'd make $4,500 on that $100.

If your true conviction is UK makes a FF, then that's not a gamble. You could even put $1 down and win $45.

But your conviction doesn't take you to the point where you'd be willing to put even $1 down, so I take all this with a grain of salt.

I am really not trying to come across as a debbie downer, and I realize I probably am. It is just frustration build up I guess. I am like you, the past few years of Cal ate away at me, then I felt revitalized by Pope only to see the same mediocrity. I don't expect National Championships every year. I don't expect final fours every year. In a one and done tournament, upsets happen. What I do expect is to be in a similar conversation as the Duke, UConn, Florida, Kansas's of the world. Part of the fun in the NCAA tournament is the speculation. The excitement of potential matchups down the road, the what ifs. I feel like that has been stolen from us for the better part of a decade and it wears on me to the point I can't get my hopes up anymore.

I wish I had that confidence. Iowa State is going to be a mighty hurdle to leap.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all. Not at a FF. Not at losing the first game.

We have FF players and a lose first game coach.

Everything would have to go right, but it's not impossible. We have a few guys who are good enough to collectively carry us if they get hot at the right time.

I don’t see any way they beat Iowa state other than being unconscious from 3. Iowa State can win the National Championship.
