He might be trying to improve his draft status if such a thing is possible in a bowl game. He's been rated a lot lower than what I had expected to see.
My thought is he might feel compelled to play after Leach's death if this is indeed a true rumor of him playing.
That would be awesome. I was thinking that some of those players may come and play the bowl game (even if just for part of it), just to honor CML. Hope that happens and that no one gets hurt who does.
