Missouri is hoping to join the Southeastern Conference but
would have preferred an offer from the Big Ten that never came, a university
official said Wednesday.

Missouri hoped to join the Big Ten last year but the league instead chose
Nebraska. The university official said the Big Ten remains Missouri’s top choice
but that conference “has no interest.”

“That’s what’s left,” the official said, referring to the SEC.

offer UNC or FSU $40 million and be done with it. If that's even legal.

Go with 13 for a couple of years if necessary. Missouri might be good because of their market, but they really are not a huge attraction as far as I'm concerned. Better than WV though. I would rather have FSU.

Now, suddenly the one anonymous 'university official' speaks for the entire Missouri fanbase's attitude about the SEC being 2nd choice?

Professor would rather the school be associated with the likes of Michigan, Purdue, and Penn State, than with Mississippi State, Auburn, and LSU.

No ACC team is going to leave that conference to go anywhere. So where else are you going to find a better fit? West Virginia? South Florida? Central Florida? None of those bring anywhere near as much to the table as Missouri does. Oklahoma? Not interested, and even if they were they'd want to bring Oklahoma St. with them. Texas? Again, not interested. And even if they were they've proven to be a lot more trouble than they're worth. So where else are you going to find a better fit than Missouri?

20mil is not that much in this day an age. I'm just saying if MO doesn't really want to be in our conference, give it some time to find a good fit for us and the school.

I wouldn't mind for them to be in the SEC, but geographically and marketwise, the Big10 just makes sense. What does Ohio State and Michigan know that we don't?

could choose. I believe that the money is not the difference maker, the opportunity to compete for conference championships is for MO. I think their football program is ok, not sure about their baseball and basketball. They will struggle in football and baseball in the West alone, and they should be able to compete in basketball. At this point, I say 17 it, let's take them, move AU to the East, and have a team to soften our conference schedule a bit. It's probably a wash with aTm joining the West, but it would be better then having AU in the West. MO being in the SEC is not going to hurt the SEC financially.

schools brings any real growth in the t.v. market. UNC is not coming. To me the only realistic ACC option would be VT and they don't bring markets like St. Louis and Kansas City. Simple choice really. Again, this all goes back
to Slive. If he doesn't sign a t.v. deal that puts us below Big 12, Pac 12, and Big Ten, (or one that runs out sooner) do we even expand right now?

we expanded it's because of Texas pissing of aTm so bad they couldn't stand to stay in the same conference as them and basically begged Slive to let them in the SEC. The SEC couldn't say no. Now 13 is not even so the SEC is got it's legs open looking for any big dick to get in. Take Boise State for football only till the 14th has become available. Let's see how they can do and put the Boise problem to bed.

If I was a school that had moderate but not outstanding success in athletics like Mizzou playing outside of the SEC, I would want to stay the hell out of the SEC. The level of competition in football and baseball is insane and UK has a stranglehold on basketball most of the time. Sure the money is good but all those losses could hurt in the long run too (ie fewer ticket sales, less fan excitement, etc.)

Put it this way, if MSU was an independant school looking for a conference, I would avoid the SEC like small pox.

that Texas and Oklahoma get a bigger cut of the Big 12 pie than other schools. I was well aware that Texas had a stranglehold on the Longhorn Network, but I would have thought that the pot would have been split up evenly beyond that. Apparently, that's not the case.

I get their reasoning for this, but that is just all kinds of wrong when you're associated with a conference and I'm frankly a little surprised that it's taken this long for the other schools in the Big 12 to ditch them. I agree 100% that Texas and Oklahoma both can suck on one. My preference in all of this would be for an ACC school such as UNC, FSU, or Clemson but for whatever reasons, there just doesn't seem to be any fuel to that fire.

I like the notion of a Clemson , Florida State or Virginia Tech. No, you don't gain new tv marketsso to speakaccept for V Tech possibly. However, the revenue generated from successfull football programs could make up for the tv market. Bowl games and adding to the stranglehold the SEC already has in football dominance.
