For a 5-4 team to play a top 5 team to a 17-7 game until that last td (which was moot, we called a t.o. to set it up or it'd never happen), I'd say we faired well. I mean Rick, do you check the lines for games? We were an 18 point underdog. I don't buy into conspiracy talk but to make you average reader believe we were basically trounced and give us little credit in the areas we played hard in is just ridiculous. Oh and even making sure you went out of your way to pour in historical records was a nice touch. I realize your golden eagles are having a nice season and all but come on, we were hardly trounced. Ask Saban, Rick.</p>

He's a screwball....and yes, we had our chances in the game and didn't take advantage of them and made some mental mistakes and bonehead mistakes...against probably the second best team, if not the first best, in college football.

Two missed field goals, one resulting from a first and goal where we went BACKWARDS on three plays. Offensive line is terrible, special teams...really? Quarterback play is awful.

I'm talking Rick Cleveland's take. He's paid to report a fair assessment of the game. He's paid to report factual information of the game. If you believe a trouncing to be factual, so be it. If you wantthe average reader who doesn't give two ***** about State to thinkwe were completely assaulted last night, fine.No one said a word about moral victories except for you. I don'tbelieve in them nor do I talk about them. I'm talking about Rick's view of the game, which he is paid to convey. If youwere unbiased and went to the game with no allegiances, knowing team Ais an 18 point underdog to Team B, and Team Aplaysit to a 17-7 game with a min left, you mean to tell me that you'd write a summary of the game suggesting it was a total trouncing? How awesome we looked when we missed two field goals? How much we have improved when we cant score after having the ball first and goal at the 4 yard line? How great quarterbacks looked? How well our offensive line blocked?

Another Bama runaway victory in a land slide. Never once mentioning a defense that held a Heisman contender in check for 3 and a half quarters. In fairness, we had chances and made ridiculous mistakes.The first and goal situation was inexcusable. I just didn't like the tone Rick wants to convey as if we were completely caught off guard and were blown over like Bama does to all their opponents. Whether or not anyone wants to believe it, the coaching staff had a fine game plan in place. Minus the Relf decision off the bench with us driving. That deserves some mentioning. Defensively without Whitley, and with little depth, holding their own after being put behind the 8 ball time and time again deserves at least a mention. Being unlike State teams from the last 10 years, who would have thrown in the towel after the botched punt snap and giving Bama the ball at the 30 deserves a mention. Don't get me wrong, the mistakes cost us the game. Or at least a shot at the game. That should be the primary focus of anyone's take on what transpired. I just don't get Rick's overall tone making it sound like a total runaway domination. His writeup sounds like someone that looked at the score and stat sheet and drew his own conclusions.

Other than two missed field goals how did they play like ****? We handed them the ball on a dropped punt and had numerous fall start penalties, a late hit, and a pass interference. Neither team could make a field goal. I would like to know why you think they played poorly?

He isn't paid to give a "fair assessment of the game." He's a columnist who is paid to write his opinion of the game. To be honest, I didn't really agree with his opinion of the game either but that's really the whole point of it — it's his opinion. If you're looking for a columnist to put a positive spin on a loss, you might want to try a homer publication. The game columnist for the statewide newspaper won't typically provide that fix.
