Some actually thought DS was serious about our record vs the Top 10. Anyway, I saw the typical Mississippi redneck, trailer, overalls, no internet, etc, jokes...but for the most part they seem fairly respectful and looking for a good series. I think they respect our tradition, but they feel confident since they are the National Seed, home team, and favorite to advance. I think we are all hopeful that we can steal the Super or at least take it 3 games and make it a good series. Any of you acting like we are the big bad SEC team, could end up severely upset by Sunday night or Monday. These guys can play.

I think we need a look-a-like contest or something though to make this week a little more fun. They don't seem as douchey as a majority of Ole Miss fans (since that TulaneUVA guy was comparing them to OM)....probably because they actually have the academics and history to go with any attitude they may have. Meanwhile, they will soon know that we aren't backwoods hicks with bare feet and a chew of tobacco in our mouths (at least, not all of us*). So maybe we can have some good natured **** talking with them. I was disappointed in the **** talking from Northwestern and Wake Forest fans for the bowl games the last few years...but I don't think Virgina is as nerdy as Wake Forest or NW. Those guys were like discussing football with a bunch of damn scientists.

Anyway, any thoughts on some ways to introduce these 17ers to MSU and SPS? I'm anxious as hell for this series to start, so anything that can help the week fly by.

However, comparing yourself to OM and complaining about this board saying things like "I guess Ole Miss is the 'classy' school in the state." will only put you further in league with those we hate. If OM fans are "classy" I don't want to be.

first off, they have some of the best academics in the country. Remember the one page, front and back application you filled out at State? You have to write a freaking essay to get in there. Who has time to read all that?
As for history, they really didnt become a baseball power until coach mac **** the bead and wouldnt let grisham's kid on the team, guess who took him and has been on the receiving end of millions ever since.

om people think that they have a respectable institution. The rest of the planet actually does respect the school at UVA.....oh, and they arent best known for racial riots either.

I took a Mississippi government and politics class with Dr. Wiseman to get the 3 hours I needed to get minor in poly sci and you'd be shocked how many of our state leaders went to UVA law school.

As far as their fans, after 5 minutes of looking on their board I have a sour taste in my mouth about them. Ann Arbor and Chicago weren't even this bad about the whole "you're from Mississippi" ********. I typically have a team in every conference I pull for in their in-conference play and it used to be Virginia (I love an underdog) but I think I've changed my mind now.

Maybe they'll get their heads out of their asses and figure out how to insult me through Mississippi State athletics instead of coming at me for not being "classy" like Ole Miss... which shows me they haven't a clue about sports outside of their own state.

In my job I work with folks from all over Virginia. I am even close with the state sales management in Richmond. I will tell you this most of them are as proud as us to be called Southerners. When you get to Northern Virginia that changes. I would say 50% of them were not born there. They are a different bunch. The ones from Virginia are very much like us. They hunt, go to church and love football. Politically they are very much like us. There are good folks there who will pull over and help you if you are in trouble and I am sure their message board persona is totally different then real life. Message boards are all in good fun. People are mad at him for the latter, yes, but 30 years from now we'll all talk about how Ron Polk was one of the greatest sports heroes of all time, which isn't necessarily true because he's a real son of a *****.

2) Grisham would have been a cash cow for MSU in a sport where no one gets a scholarship anyway. Why did it matter? I can't help but think Ron turned him down just to be a little ****, kind of how at the end there he didn't care about anything other than wearing #35 on his jersey or whatever number it was to hopefully offend the NCAA instead of recruiting and coaching.

You made your point, but he BUILT MSU baseball culture. Just think. Without Polk, we would not own the top 10 attendance records, or have a left field lounge. Chances are we would be relegated to being mediocre in another sport. Our venue might seat 7,000 and it would probably be pretty boring. I agree he did some bad, but I think, to some degree, it was his to do bad with.

He was more the catalyst than the builder. The FANS built the culture. LFL was around before Polk ever got to MSU and we had a good baseball history before he ever got here. But he definitely was the one who took it to a new level. So, he does deserve a lot of credit for that. But he really hasn't done a damn thing for MSU since 1990 other than bring McMahon back.

The Left Field lounge began in the 1960's, TEN YEARS BEFORE Pollk started coaching here. It didn't even start at Dudy Noble, It started at the field where Dorman is now.

Pretty sure it was McMahan. But whether it was him or Polk, like most 17up's in MSU sports, you can trace it back to Lonnie Tinkle. When you're head coach is about to 17 the university, you step in and do what's right. A decent AD would have had Grisham's spot reserved before the coach even thought about whether there was a spot for him.

I had heard that they were afraid it would look political. And it would have been, but they still should have allowed him to walk-on. Horrible mistake by McMahon. And I agree with whomever said that the AD and maybe even the President of MSU should have stepped in.
