I think everyone needs to chill the 17 out.

I feel MUCH better about our season than I did 2 weeks ago. Sure we should have won, but we looked way better than we did against OSU. We're still a 5 win team though. Not enough experience and missing too many starters.

I say this loss is on Dillon Day more than anyone. He KILLED us in the second half with penalties on back to back possessions and not snapping the ball on that potential offsides in their territory. ****, he looked right at him while he was still across the line of scrimmage.

re: your whole post

trying to calm the masses assuring everyone we will be ok because we are a 5 win team? its ok....our coach just 17ed us out of a bowl...

ok baghdad bob....everything is not ok and we are screwed because our coach just got exposed for being vastly incompetent to a team that looked really, really bad.

Really? Name our wins now? Two non-conference, Kentucky(maybe), then who? So your expectation was 3-9 now the 4-8 staring us in the face is over-achieving? Auburn is not good on D. They are average on O. We are in trouble.

I keep hearing folks calling us a 5-win team...
We've won one game so far, so where are we possibly going to scrounge up four more?
I see us beating Troy. Bowling Green is no guarantee. Who else?

I'll admit to being pleasantly surprised that we were competitive in this game. Before the season I thought 5-7....after OSU I was thinking more like 3-9...now I'm back to 5-7.

That said, that was a game that we really had to pull out. The coaching staff and players just didn't have the balls to step on their throat when we had the chance.

Seriously name the other 2? Assuming the two non-conference. I guess Kentucky is one, who is the other one?

I've said since the start of the season when everyone was predicting 7-8 wins that we'd win 5. I stand by that. We'll beat Troy, BG, and Kentucky and one of Ole Miss and Arkansas, and if we play at 11 against LSU we'll have a slight chance at beating them if we catch them on an off day. Auburn is much improved and so is Arkansas, which I also said at the beginning of the season. EJ is a HUGE improvement over Ted Roof. That guy is garbage. Auburn won a national title 3 years ago and still has plenty of talent on their team to run schemes that are tailored to their players.

I guess it's gotta be one of OM/Ark.

Arkansas has looked very beatable, but it's on the road. OM is a rivalry game and we're at home.

Would not shock me to lose both games but I'll just cling to the hope that we can win one of them.

We've played 3 games and looked different in every single one of them. Game 3 and we're ****** out of a bowl? ok "Dashboard Confessional"...go smoke a bowl and beat off.

We just don't win in Arkansas, and as I type this post I realize what I'm saying, and despite logic I cannot predict it, so 17 it we at least win 5 because we won't lose to Ole Miss.

if by "different" you are referring to a different shade of **** in all 3 games, then yes, we have in fact looked "different" in each game.

Wouldn't they slit their wrist, and smoke fiberglass? Because smoking a bowl and beating off seems pretty anti-sadist.

I've been upset and I've been pissed of at outcomes of some games under Mullen, but its been about 5 years since I've been embarrassed and pissed off at the same time.

I agree with sutterkane. We lose one game and all hell breaks loose. The typical solution is to fire the head coach. Who will we get to replace him? Hudspeth? Petrino? I do blame the lose on Mullen. We played not to lose and that bit us on the arse. Most people on this forum are upset. They post without thinking. I think *** deserves a little more time before getting the hook.

ONE GAME? see, this is how i know you are not knowledgeable....do bama, lsu, aTm, ole miss, northwestern, auburn, oklahoma state mean anything to you?

we have looked like inept 17-sticks for nearly a full season now (last half of '12 and first 3 of '13). if all we can do in that stretch is muster 23 + point blowout losses and in the meantime beat only arkansas and alcorn state.....we are straight-up being out-classed.

1-7 vs our last 8 fbs opponents flat isnt getting it done and will get your *** in the firing cross-hairs at 75% of fbs schools. its just a question of whether or not we demand excellence or not....if we want to be in the reactive 25%, which i suspect our sackless admins will, then we should quit spending money on the ****** team and start balling like bosses on the baseball field. think about what an 80 million dollar baseball stadium would look like....yet we are spending that on an expansion for a team nobody wants to see under-perform or get their teeth kicked in every other week.

these games we have lost, with exception of tonight, have been complete blowouts.

mullens record is now 30-24....its turning sour faster than we can process the smell. (yes, you can smell something souring....ie milk)

Predicting 5-7 isn't exactly saying we're a great team. We DO suck. We aren't going to win 8 games every year at M-State. We could hire Saban and it still wouldn't happen. We're due for a losing season. We scheduled poorly, have multiple starters out, and a lot of freshmen playing. Really 7 out if you count Redmond. Next year looks really bright on paper. If we lose to Bowling Green or Troy and go 0-8 in conference play, Dan will be on the hot seat, and he'll have next year to turn it around. Calling for his head after 3 consecutive losing seasons make all of you look like entitled shitheads.

In that same stretch we've lost only 2 games by 20+ points. Not sure where you got 23+. Another thing almost all of those games have in common? They are almost all (minus A&M) away or neutral site games. 4 of those games are against top 15 teams. If you're pissed that we're losing to Bama under Saban, I suggest you find another team to root for before you have a stroke.

At this point there is no way in hell we are gonna beat Ole Miss. Arkansas, maybe..Ole Miss no. I wish it were another way, but its this way. - marlo

See Mullen has changed our thinking also. If we don't win 8 games or more, it's a disappointing season. I remember the Croom years and the first and last part of Sherrill years. I would have been happy to beat Ole Miss....and that was considered a good season.

We are never going to beat Bama, LSU, and A&M on a consistant basis. There talent level is always going to be much better than ours. I do agree that the oklahoma state game and Ole Miss game was games we could win.

im not saying that we SHOULD beat bama, lsu, aTm...rather be somewhat competitive. we were getting our asses handed to us against the big boys....as in TOTAL blowout losses. that is a problem and a clear signal of what to expect from here on out vs those teams. im not asking to beat those guys yet....but is it too much to ask to be a little competitive against those teams?

as far as the others, a depleted ole miss team last year, 1 bad auburn team ('13) and a mediocre auburn team ('11), a questionable houston team, a northwestern team that we were far more physically talented, and i would disagree with osu....they are out of our league, but your are right....we COULD have won. just not very probable.

Actually, 3 were by 20+.....and all but one of the 7 losses were within a single score (last night)....prior to that, the previous 14 losses were by an averag of 21 points (bama, lsu, aTm, nwrn, ole miss, osu)

SEC west foes: bama:31 point differential, aTm:25 point differential, lsu:20 point differential, ole miss:18 point differential

31+25+20+18+14=108
94/4=21.5 avg point differential in losses in our 1-5 finish (totals from last season)

on average, our sec west losses are by 23.5 points (94/4=23.5). however, i referencing the 1-7 stretch, so technically, the 14 point loss and the oklahoma state loss was by 18....and then there is auburn.
so, we have 31+25+20+18+14+18+4=130
130/7 = 18.5 avg point differential in losses over the last 8 games (running avg from 5 losses last season and 2 losses this season)

we are getting murdered by the great teams, thumped good teams, and embarrassed by a mediocre teams (nwrn, aub, om).

and why is this acceptable again? 18.5 point loss differential is not acceptable, only one of which was close (within a td).

and im not pissed at losing to bama, im pissed at being less competitive in year 5 than what we were when mullen first arrived.
