I think the officials did a great job last night

Not sure if the Rebs agree, but the two calls I questioned, the held ball and the no call when Moultrie fell, both looked right on the replay.

...if you think that! ;-)) That was Doug Shows' crew. There was an awful lot of hacking and grabbing going on that was not called.

when Moultrie got totally hammered going up for a dunk and ended up sprawled on the floor but no foul call was made.

The Moultrie fall probably should've been called a foul before he "walked"... I don't have a problem with the no-call on the front end though since they didn't call the travel on the back end.

My biggest beef with any officiating crew is inconsistency... don't let them hack and bang around down low one trip down the floor, and then the next trip down the floor call little hand check fouls. It bugs me even more in baseball... don't change a strike zone half way through a game.

It's the first game I've seen all season when Sidney was not called for a phantom foul. They called only what they saw and not what they thought might have happened. In the last five minutes, OM did step up the pressure and probably got away with a few. I didn't notice anything blatant, but I'm not an expert. I still think it was the best-called State game I've seen this season.

I would agree with the comment 100%. Interesting too when you think about the degree to which Olemiss and Ark both hacked us at their places, yet didn't get called for it.

Sid is obviously playing himself into shape. Props to him. He played really really good D and was in position to defend the post as opposed to gased and out of position slapping at people as they blow past him. He has improved his game.

Bost had his best game of the year in my opinion. 13 assists is sick.

I am not sure if the alleyoops are some sort of response that we have implemented to folks crowding our ball screens, but I really, really like those plays. They were open all night and Olemiss didn't do a good job of adjusting to that or Sid imposing himself on smaller defenders and scoring at will.

I wonder if you think we can run the alleyoops on teams that equal us in size? Or would Bost's passes get batted down on picked off?

I'm not real big on details of basketball rules (shocker). I hate the sport, primarily because of inconsistencies in officiating and I am opposed to the concept of "drawing a foul". I an offensive player should not be rewarded for jumping into a guy while he's shooting - no explanation in the world can account for any fairness in that rule. But anyway....

The jump ball.. To Rebs fighting our guy (Hood?) who had 2 arms wrapped around the ball. They MIGHT have gotten 2 index fingers on the ball and they call a jump ball. IMO, a jump ball ought to be when there's a fight for the ball and its not clear who has it. Our guy had to wrapped up with 2 arms moving his upper body around while 2 Rebs clearly are fouling him reaching in to make contact in hopes of a jump ball call which they got. There was never any question of who had possession of the basketball.

So was that a bad call or just a correct call of a stupid rule?

but our team plays waaaaaay better when the ref let's them go. Right off thetip, Sidney did his patented "hands in the air and shove the guy with the hip move" and knockedhim completely out of bounds. I knew that was a good sign. There were definitely some calls that should have been called against them. The one where Lewis tried to shoot and couldn't even get his hands or the ball past his head was ridiculous. But there were a lot of no calls for both teams. That should be what we want.

eta: flabloser: they called that jump to quick, in my opinion. They might have put their hands on it, I am not sure, but it seemed to quick.

G Bost 6'2" -- G Summers 6'4"
G Bryant 6'3" -- G Williams 6'4"
F Hood 6'8" -- F Henry 6'9"
F Moultrie 6'11" -- F Holloway 6'7"
F Sidney 6'10" -- Buckner 6'9"

I don't see much height advantage there.

I think the defender clearly had two hands on the ball and the jump ball looked like a good call to me. Lars, I thought that call was always immediate when the defender gets two hands on the ball.

I also noticed our guy with the ball had his back to the official who made the call. That official couldn't see whether anybody else's hands were on the ball or not. He decided the Rebels were close enough for long enough (about 1 second) and blew the whistle.

Sidney was not penalized last night when lighter players bounced off him.

I think teams have crowded our ball screens and disrupted our offense by pushing Bost further out and defending the perimeter well. With Steele hitting from 22-25 ft, and Bost lobbing over the top for easy dunks, that is a pretty sweet chess move for Rick. Good one!
Then when the players back off a little bit, Dee penetrates and as players collapse on him he distributes to the open guy. Hell, he even threw it to Wendell Lewis last night for an easy lay-in.......W. Lewis, man. Plus the timing of the entry passes to Moultrie like the first play or two last night has really improved for us. This team is getting a lot better. I see the discipline and some nice set plays as the season goes on, Moultrie and Sidney are hell on wheels and next to impossible to defend.
We have a period at about 5 min left in the first half where we have mostly our second unit in the game. They do not mesh well on offense, but then I guess that is to be expected. If we can insert Deville into that lineup, especially at that point of the game,we might get that spark we are missing.

He actually is pretty consistent and usually Tony Green is too. Pat Adams was far more inconsistent and the game was pretty evenly called. If Sid is allowed to play, we are better off and at least they did not let the Bear players beat Bost to death like they did at Arkansas. Sid gets leaned on and pushed everytime he is down low but he is so much bigger and stronger, he gets few calls. The only SEC officials I have problems with are T V Teddy Valentine and Mike Stuart. They tend to want to be the center of attention and that is never good. If we get the officiating we got last night against Ky, we can beat them.

While I don't agree that the officiating was good, I was glad to see that Sid finally was shown something other than a lack of respect from the refs.
