I though OM's signing class was a disaster, then I checked the facts...

...went to rivals.com & compared our stars to the rebel's stars.

(This is rivals.com stars; have no idea about scout.com stars):

MSU has four 4 star signees, everybody else is a 3 star player, except for three 2 star players.

OM has two four star players, everybody else is a 3 star player, except for three 2 star players.

So the only difference between our class & OM's class is we have two more 4 star players.

Outside of the fact OM signed fewer players, how that make our class so great & OM's class a disaster?

Go to scout and look at the differences there. Rivals downgraded Quay to a 4 star because of alledged character issues. Who knows what they were smoking to make Denico a 4 star.

but it's funny as hell watching these rebels slit their own wrists over it though. It's even funnier watching the Auburn fans.

We did sign a damn good class, and I'm happy with it. But it's not like Ole Miss signed a Croom '04 type class. They got some JUCO OL, a JUCO QB, a sure thing DE and some decent athletes. Not a program killer by any means.

..is different, then fill us in.

That being said, I'm not going to put much credence in anything gene's swindoll's neck of the woods has to offer.

but the talk I hear most often is that Scout and 247 are the best for football rankings and Rivals for basketball. This might all be ******** but its at least the most commonly heard ********.

...everything else (outside number of signees) was identical. (Going by rivals.com)

I realize OM thinks their stirring football legacy entitles them to sign top 10 classes every year no matter the circumstances, but considering their coach situation, they did damn good.

you think repeating something that has already been explained makes it true? No one listens to Rivals when it comes to football. Any reasonable person who understands football knows our class is way better, including Ole Miss fans which is why they are upset.

counting the December enrollees. TSUN has 18...yes I'm not counting Maikhail Miller or Kameron Wood since they want to count them again this year (both were signees last year but greyshirted and signed as part of this class...AGAIN). You don't think that is worth mentioning?

..and I'm the stupid one?

If rivals.com is presenting facts that wreck your narrative, don't take it out on me.

If you want to pimp mary ann swindoll's rankings as the "real rankings" then watch who you call stupid.

They also downgraded Nick James from 4 to 3 for character issues.

You have to consider other things, like ...

-Is a class filling immediate needs with JUCO transfers?
-Is a class adding an impact player at a position that just lost an underclassman to the NFL draft?
-Is a class adding an impact player at a position that was average or below average last season?

You can't just look at stars, man.

To hell with the stars. Look at the players. Look at the offers. It amazes me the people that keep saying "Look at dem starzz!". I don't give a rats *** if quay Evans was a 2 star, he should be a player. How many players would UM trade with us? MSU with UM?

Anyone with a functioning brain cell know we signed a much better class.

That really depends on which fanbase you're talking to, how they did in a particular year according to which sites and how their rivals did in comparison to them.

I've seen fanbases claim Rivals is the end all/be all in recruiting coverage. I've heard people claim Scout. I've even heard people claim ESPN (usually only when it's the ONLY favorable ranking they have).

The common thread I've seen is that usually fans believe the best site is the site that ranks their team the highest, or their rival the lowest. It's just a case of confirmation bias. What's reality? Who knows? Maybe someone should do a study on it.

I remember I think in 2009 the Arkansas fans were claiming how Rivals was the best by far. Not coincidentally, they were ranked about 10 spots higher by Rivals than Scout.

The only part that interests me as a stats guy is how they rank classes. Scout assigns a point value to every recruit. They simply add up the highest 25 rated players in your signing class. If you undersign like we did this year, or like other teams have done when they're up against the 85, then your class is ranked lower than it would've been with a full 25, simply because you're effectively taking zeros for how many players below 25 you sign.

Rivals takes your Top 20 recruits. I believe they have point values too, but they also factor in your average star ranking and maybe another factor or two. I don't know all the details, but that's why Scout's rankings tend to favor teams who sign 25+, and Rivals tends to be more favorable to teams that sign fewer than 25.

ETA: I like to judge our classes not on rankings or stars but on how we did with the players we pursued from the beginning. That's a little tougher to judge on a transition class, but even with that, we missed on a lot of guys we were pursuing heavily. I understand why that happened given the season we just had and the coaching change, but it wasn't a strong class and definitely not a deep one. Hopefully we'll have a handful of high quality players come out of the class and the rest will at least provide us some depth. That's about all I want from a transition class.

It doesn't matter if your front wheels and doors are the almost as good as mine... your car is a disaster because you're missing a third of it...

After today, it's all leftovers...

They can either find some NR-2 stars or a random JUCO or wait until next year and backfill 5-8 JUCOs...

Their class is a disaster because on top of landing more quality players, we also have quality in spots where they have nobody.

Just going by Scout:

Stars | Mississippi State | Mississippi
5 | 2 | 1
4 | 3 | 0
3 | 19 | 11
2 | 4 | 5

Best case scenario for them, they pick up (and get qualified) the two 3 stars that have them listed as possibilities and fill out the rest of this class with two stars... best case scenario.

What an idiotic thread...
