I thought Broomfield had a pretty good game.

Looked to be in great position the times I noticed him. Also seemed to fight off blocks and tackle well. I think his football intelligence has allowed him to transition to safety smoothly & remain effective.

The move to Safety was perfect for him. He's always been a solid tackler.

Now he can play near the line of scrimmage as needed and play a more important role in run support. He's not the biggest guy in the world but I've always felt he wrapped up and made plays. That combined with sometimes unpredictable coverage history at corner makes this move a great one for our defense. I thought he had a great day yesterday as well.

Since when has Broomfield been known as a "solid tackler?"
I'm not sure if you have watched him play the past couple seasons or just focused on everything around him but he could not tackle in the open field to save his life. This season, however, he has shown incredible improvements in that department. I no longer see him hitting people in the chest and then sliding off of them like a crisco-covered hand around a bar of wet soap.

He now wraps up and holds on, bringing down the opponent, which is what he was unfortunately bad at in previous seasons. He looks very good at safety though. I think he will do great there.

I don't know, I've always felt he was a pretty solid tackler. How many chances does a typical corner get? Not to say he hasn't made mistakes that I've missed but I'd put his tackling skills up above his 1 on 1 coverage skills. Which only makes the Safety move that much better.

You mean like the 9 solo tackles in the MCB?

He had 39 solo tackles last year --- not bad for the smallest defender on the field, playing with a cast on his hand, who doesn't wrap up.

I'm not saying he's a great tackler. Just not as bad as people have made him out to be. Technically very good, but physically limited.

Broomfield has always been a pretty good tackler. He won't win any awards for it, but he has been pretty good. He also has been pretty good at either (A) containing the play to direct it to more traffic so someone else can make the tackle or (B) holding someone up until help arrives to get the guy on the ground.

To say that Broomfield used to just slide off of people would be VERY inaccurate.

Yeah, check this quote that Paul @ Bulldawgs247 got...

"When you watch film you know one thing they like to do is get to the edge," said senior safety Corey Broomfield, who had seven tackles with two tackles for loss. "Since I've been here Coach (Melvin) Smith has been cussing us out to get around the edge. I told them the other day when giving the scouting report to not let these boys get around the edge. Matt Wells and (Deontae) Skinner did a great job of doing that."

I think you skipped watching him last year. Before that he was very iffy when tackling and struggled. He really worked on it before last season and was a pretty good tackler last year. Instead of trying to knock people down he now goes and wraps up and latches on.
