I was leaning towards saving Stratton for game two, but...

If you aren't super confident that you will beat Samford, you have got to throw Stratton. Lose to Samford and we're done more than likely. Plus, we have a staff built for several games, and have proven we can beat great teams with guys other than Stratton starting. This will be a tough decision, but I like my chances of beating FSU with Graveman, Woodruff, or staff, more than I like my chances f winning the Regional after losing to Samford. If in doubt, throw your ace.

and Samford is an SEC caliber team (whether some of the know-it-alls on here realize it or not). If the matchups make sense you have to let Stratton go get that win.

..if Cohen is going to start his ace against a team that went 2-4 vs. the SEC in the regular season, then Cohen is displaying a lack of confidence in everybody not named Chris Stratton.

But the fact that we have several people on each side f the fence on the subject, tells me that maybe we should start Stratton. You can't save him just out of stubbornness. While we have played great lately, we also can play down and lose to teams we shouldn't. Samford is far better than some of the teams we lost to this season. Like I said, I can see both sides of the argument so I will be okay with either decision....but it's not as cut and dry as some think. Lose to Samford, and it will be a near impossible task to win the Regional.

If the FSU board's game times are right though....FSU would play before us Friday, so we could determine our starter based on their game. If they throw their ace game one, we could do the same and feel more comfortable with it. Just a thought.

Not true. Losing game 1 is basically the same thing as winning game 1 and losing game 2. Basically you either win the first 2 or you're going to have to come back and beat the top team twice in a row, essentially. <div>
</div><div>Lose the first game, and you're a win over the 4 seed away from probably playing the 3 seed again for the right to face the 1 seed, having to win twice. Win the first game but lose the second game, and you're playing the 3 seed again for the right to face the 1 seed, having to win twice.</div><div>
</div><div>The key to winning a regional easily is winning the first 2. If you don't do that, regardless of whether you lose the first game or the second, you're fighting an uphill battle. So if you think it's a near impossible task to win the regional following a game 1 loss, the same holds true for a game 2 loss.</div>

..as John Cohen & the statistics lead us to believe, then it's a no-brainer that Stratton is saved for the first game vs. FSU.

I'm saying if you lose your first game, it puts tons of pressure on you as a 2 seed, and if somehow UAB was to beat FSU then that first game becomes much more important. It's mentally tough for a team to feel confident in winning a regional after losing game one against a lower seed. Not more games, but a lack of confidence in winning those games. We're much more likely to bounce back from a game 2 loss to FSU and win the Regional, than a game one loss to Samford and win the Regional. That's what I'm saying. But I'm fine with whatever decision Cohen and Thompson make, they did a damn good job lately

Because either we'd need him in the loser's bracket game against FSU if Samford beat us<div>OR we could hold off and throw Pollo/Routt against UAB, beat them, and have Stratton avaliable for the championship game</div><div>OR if we lost to UAB somehow, we'd still have Stratton available on Sunday to beat Samford/FSU to get into the championship</div>
