I was on the same plane as Coach Wilson this morning

I told him congrats on the signing class and thanks for his hard work. I said I was excited about this signing class and the direction the program is headed, and he said he was too. I also told him thanks for staying in Starkville, and asked if there had been any truth to the rumors about him joining up with Sumlin. He said he had been real close to going to A&M. I also asked if he wanted to go back to Oklahoma, he said, "only to be the head coach." Later on I asked him what made him stay at State, he just smiled real big and said, "well, that's a tough question to answer." He then told me that he and his wife really like living in Starkville, and "the grass isn't always greener on the other side, and if it is, the water bill is probably a lot higher." Said he hates to move, and he plans to be here for a while.<span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-style: italic;"><span style="font-style: italic;"></span></span></span></span>
On my next flight I sat by a scout for the trailblazers, that was an interesting flight as well. He showed a lot of the stuff he keeps track of during a game. I asked him if thought any refs tried to influence the game. He said no way, but he also said he was very shocked when that ref got busted a few years back. He predicted Heat over OKC in the finals.

..in the last 30 years, no individual on the planet has had as many chance encounters with players & coaches as our own Ol Blue.

the guy is AMAZING. I think his football I.Q is great but he is the best damned recruiter I've met. And he can go from (his word) car salesman to fire breathing dragon in a snap of a 17ing second! And it's attention to details that make good coaches GREAT! The tiny meticulus details that others find mundain & medial. We have 2 coaches in Dan & Chris that are as anal as can be about those details. Chris will be an incredible headcoach at some point in his career & i'm so freaking glad he's here.

said he hasn't had much time to watch college this year. He also said Coach Cal is trying to line himself up for another NBA job.

Your post made me remember this, although I don't really see anything unusual about a person going to sleep on an airplane ... I can't do it, but a lot of people can.<div>
</div><div>Anyway ... after one of our home games last year, on the way back to Huntsville, I stopped at a Shell station to get gas (I exit Hwy 82 on the east side of Columbus marked Miss. Hwy 50 ... on the way to Vernon, Alabama. The station is just off that exit a half mile or so.). There was a guy next to me also getting gas, he was an MSU fan, so we chatted a bit about our team and how we thought Dan was "the man". The subject of Croom came up in comparison to Dan and he related a story that may or may not be true or even have a shred of truth to it.</div><div>
</div><div>He said he was a coach of some sort at a school in the area, and accompanied Croom on a recruiting trip to one of his player's home. He said they were in the recruit's house, talking with him and his parents, and Croom literally fell asleep sitting on their sofa.</div><div>
</div><div>Some people like to present themselves as being "in the know" regarding football and recruiting and such (as can be seen on this board and even more on Gene's board) so he may have just been a BSer. Honestly, other than wearing the MSU gear, he sort of looked like the stereotypical Alabama fan (i.e., big belly, greaser, etc.) which made me doubt his story. But he certainly related it as the truth.</div><div>

if they going somewhere and flying commercially out of GTR instead of being on the MSU plane, seeing a coach on the plane isn't out of the question or unexpected since GTR only has a couple of flights a day.
