When MSU takes the field in 2009, they will wear their 6th helmet of the decade, probably more than anyone in the nation.

I researched the SEC and this is what I have found ...

Alabama has worn the same helmet since 1960.
Arkansas has worn the same helmet since 1967 - slight changes in face mask color aside.
Auburn has worn the same helmet since 1966 - slight changes in face mask, but have worn 2 helmets this decade counting a throwback game in '07.
Florida has worn the same helmet since 1979 - 2 this decade counting a throwback in '06
Georgia has worn the same helmet since 1964 - slight changes in face mask/stripes
Kentucky has worn the same helmet since 2001 - 3 this decade (started with a white helmet and had a throwback in '04)
LSU has worn the same helmet since 1977 - 2 this decade (wore a white helmet in '07 for Hurricane Katrina)
Ole Miss has worn the same helmet since 1995 - same design since '83 but darker blue began in '95
South Carolina has worn the same helmet since 2005, and previous worn the current helmet 2000-03, had a black helmet in ;04, so 2 helmets this decade
Tennessee has worn the same helmet since 1977
Vandy has worn its current helmet since '02, and has had 2 this decade.

So in recap
MSU is on its 6th helmet this decade
Vanderbilt, Kentucky and USC are on its 2nd main design
Florida, Auburn and LSU are also on their 2nd counting a throwback
Kentucky also wore a throwback so they have 3

Two (the white Bama throwback helmet & the Breast Cancer ribbon helmet) were used once and the other white helmet (the white Nike MSU helmet) was used only a handful of times.

So really we're only talking about 3 helmets since 1996.

If you say, we have worn 6 in the last decade. Then you can not say Alabama has worn 1 since the 60s. Alabama wore white helmets vs State in Tuscaloosa in 1983. I think 83.....Don Smith's freshman year. Bellard burned Smith's RS to bring him in for one series. Which resulted in a pick 6. Anyway, looked like we were playing Nebraska that day.

The people below have ugly helmets. The fact that they won't improve the helmets only means the value tradition over substance.

Alabama - numbers go on the back, not on one side

Georgia - thou shall not rip off NFL helmets

Kentucky - not bad, but they've regressed from the "K" logo

LSU - f_u_g_l_y. Ugliest helmet in college football by far. If you weren't so used to seeing it week in and week out you would agree.
* yellow, YELLOW! Yellow should not be a football color. All yellow colors in football are on teams who came out with their yellows before they figured out how to make actual gold colors on helmets, pants, etc.
* Font: Just a plain "L S U". There's no simpler font than what they use and its not even aligned in any creative or slick way.
* Mascot: That's the simplest and ugliest damn tiger logo I've ever seen. JSU's tiger looks better than that!. The eye-of-the-tiger on the field looks better than that. Every other tiger printed on LSU propaganda looks better than that. WTF...why stay with that?

Regarding MSU - don't hold the white MSU interlock helmet against them. This wasn't a formal helmet change. It was a special edition type thing. The breast cancer helmet shouldn't count either.

Jackies last game in 2003, we wore a white helmet with numbers on the side. I've never seen it since and it would bring back bad memories.
