I will repeat: it should NOT be hard to find a competent OC!

Of the 77 FBS teams scoring 25 ppg or more, a full 28 are G5 programs. Six are in the top 25 programs, with 33 ppg or more. I am sure most any G5 OC would jump at the chance to be an OC in the SEC, along with the massive pay raise that would accompany the move. I know, I know, Beamer will be on the hot seat (if he's retained), so he's not supposed to be able to attract a competent OC. I simply don't buy it. No, he likely won't convince a competent OC from a P4 program to come here, unless we offered some insane money, but a G5 OC is attainable. This isn't even looking to the FCS level, where I'm sure there are also some talented OCs (or offensive-minded HCs) who would jump at the chance.

And, no, I'm not setting 25 ppg as the benchmark, but that is about the midpoint of ppg in college football. If we were middle of the pack in scoring offense this year, we'd be 7-2 right now.

Don't buy the doom and gloom that there is no way on earth we could possible bring in an OC who has a pulse. We can. We offer an elite playing environment in the elite conference CFB and can pay very well. To sweeten the pot, you give the new OC full autonomy over the offense.

Maybe. But when I sit and think about it my gut tells me that most really good OCs will say no because they would believe they are walking into a dumpster fire and will be out of a job in 1 year. Why would you take a job with almost no security?

What I want: High PPG, balanced running game with passing game, low penalties, low turnovers, winning games from behind and not blowing leads. Energetic and a good recruiter. Someone who is willing to stay and not leave in 2 yrs. if successful. Not too much to ask for huh?

Well, the silver lining is that they may start the season as an OC, but end it as an interim HC with a nice bump in pay.

In all seriousness, I can't imagine that the current state of college football leads many coordinators to think there's such a thing as "security" in their chosen profession, certainly not for anything less than a HC. Plus, they all seem to land on their feet. I actually think our next OC will have less pressure, not more, because Beamer is on the hotseat. If he fails to turn the offense around, he won't be the scapegoat - he'll simply be a casualty of the head coach getting fired.

You hit on a good point. Yes, Beamer is on the hot seat next season. But in this NIL-driven era, NO coach is far from the hot seat. James Franklin had his team a play away from the title game last year, and he was fired midseason. Coaches...SUCCESSFUL coaches...are dropping like flies or feeling pressure. Clemson fans are ready to move on from the coach who made their program everything that it is. Tennessee fans are souring on a coach who revived their program from a decade+ long doldrum. Bama fans were ready to crucify their coach one game into this season. It is just the nature of the current environment.

An assistant looking at open jobs would have signed on without hesitation to work for James Franklin. Nothing seemed more secure than a coach who just had his team on the verge of playing in the title game. Now they're all gonna be hunting for jobs this offseason.

So maybe there's a little too my hype around the hot seat factor with Beamer.

If White stays, they will have a darn good D to back them up. If we have any sort of offensive pulse this year we're looking at 7-5 at worst.

I believe we would be 7-2 right with a competent offense.

It's concerning that there's not been an announcement yet. Seems to me, you should have a few people in mind already when you fire someone. Unless they all passed on the job 😩

Nawww .... most of the guys we would be interested in are still coaching. Will likely be in December or early January before we know much.
