In the fetal position over this whole Brokeback Mountain event in Oxford. Surely he will take a stand on this with his colleagues tomorrow from his bully pulpit.

Brother-in-law is born and raised in Queens, NY. Out of the blue he just asked me "So what's with this Ole Miss gay slur thing?" Asked him where he heard it and he said it's on the front page of ESPN. Glad it's picking up steam.

He's got to be pretty conflicted

While he's a huge public ole miss backer, he's also very outspoken for equal rights. I'll be surprised if he touches the issue.

"Outspoken for equal rights " LOL. Come on man he's gay. Last summer on chic fi la day he said on fox it was a day of hate. A conundrum for ol shep. The bears or the lifestyle.

Time will tell, but I don't see this as having any legs. Even the only gay cast member said he doesn't want any players suspended.

He may very well be as gay as the day is long, but that's not the point

The point is his outspokenness in the past - he would look like a coward if he shied away from the subject now that it's hit so close to home.

Wash, Rinse, Repeat ...

Glad it's picking up steam.

I'm no OM fan by any means, but this kind of story is one the 'media' loves more than any other. It fits their preconceived meme ... "Mississippi - southern white rednecks heckle poor gay actors. Don't worry; State will get an opportunity to share in this spotlight too; its just a matter of time.

Meanwhile, most of this same 'media' TOTALLY ignores the over ten years research and book by a gay author that destroys the story that Matthew Shepard was killed because he was gay. Instead, the book shows that he was killed over a drug deal which makes </SPAN>The Laramie Project </SPAN>a work of fiction, kills the 'hate crime' motive, annihilates the entire 'Matthew Shepard gay martyr' industry and makes Obama look idiotic for pushing and signing the 2009 Hate Crimes Prevention Act (commonly known as the Matthew Shepard Act).

If the media does happen to mention the book, The Book of Matt: Hidden Truths About the Murder of Matthew Shepard, it is usually to say that it is complete FICTION, never mind that the author has done the most research to date; never mind that the author is gay himself; ignore it and move on. Under LGBT pressure, NY Times Mag cancelled their article on the Book. And, don't look for many book reviews as they try to bury both the story and book itself.

The media will never permit any honest debate on this topic ... period. To even bring it up is seen as anti-gay bashing.</SPAN></SPAN>

C'mon man.

That dude's book has pretty much been picked apart as just as stupid and shoddy as those 911 truthers' film. Ya want to discuss conspiracies around the Sheppard case and talk about the POTUS and the hate crime act? Go to one of those nut job conspiracy message boards you obviously frequent. Don't do it here. This is your warning.

I don't see him shying away from it. Say what you want about Shep, but dude has integrity. He is one of the few people in the media that will go against party lines if he feels strongly enough. "We do not 17'n torture." Oops.

This board pretty much resembles the country. Divided on the particular issue at hand. That being said, just lock threads that don't meet the board criteria. To call out a poster who is not being inflammatory(at least not overtly) or hateful but just stating his opinion and threaten him from a bully pulpit is poor form. His post was a more detailed version of a post from RocketDawg in an earlier thread, so it wasn't even original.

Being insistent that you are right, and everyone with differing opinions is wrong, is the exact opposite of open-minded. To then treat people with differing opinions with disdain and threats is completely contrary to the acceptance and inclusion that is preached by the LGBT community. It makes absolutely no sense and it weakens your position when hate and threats are all that are represented in a response. This issue is very close to the surface for some on this board and probably for bad reasons (themselves or loved ones being treated poorly).

I completely agree that this isn't the forum for those discussions and I'll freely admit that by the same token, I can't resist weighing in when they are allowed to continue. Be quicker on the lock trigger and we can focus more on areas in which we agree, like MSU football...well, we agree that we are in favor of it anyway...

That's Seshomoru's trademark. Throws in his opinion that says he'll ban you if you dare question it. Actually pretty hilarious.

You have opinion mixed up with slander.

The book he mentioned has been documented as a smear piece and alleges wild conspiracies. It's no different than what Alex Jones does on a regular basis. It needs to be pointed out as false and harmful and I make no apologies for doing so. I guess the beauty of a conspiracy is that when proven blatantly false, you can just say it's yet another conspiracy to cover it up.

Fair enough. I have absolutely no knowledge of the book except it exists and apparently portrays a different story (I'm equally ignorant on who Alex Jones is but I'll google it). I do have a problem with "hate crime" stuff as it seems to hold certain peoples deaths as more important than others. I do get the intent is to try to reign in some really poor attitudes and behavior by being more severe. Semantically, it makes little sense as murder is a display of hate, no matter the motivation. Regardless of that rambling, the whole thing is a sad situation from the original crime to the people making fun of a play that recounted that crime. Unfortunately we as a society seem determined to embrace a selfish mentality that marginalizes others view, opinions and in really sad cases like this, their very existence.

And I will forever blame you for having to know that an Alex Jones exists. What a moron! For the record, I'd rather remain ignorant if the knowledge will only serve to lower my opinion of humanity in general...

The media is rallying forces against the Rebels and turning the public strongly against them. I'll bet public opinion is overwhelmingly negative! By now, you can bet--oh, wait-- the comments on that Yahoo link supporting the Rebels or bashing the Morality Police are "liked" 4-1.

The repeating theme in the comments is that the liberal media thinks it's OK to shout down conservative speakers, but protest or disrespect a pet liberal cause and you'd better get ready for the backlash. This statement about Freeze by the writer is interesting: "Freeze is an outspoken Christian. A man of God. Wears it on his sleeve. Many Christians openly consider homosexuality a sin, even in the face of dramatically changing public opinions in this area."

And here I didn't even know that what constituted a "sin" was determined by public opinion. Where have I been? I guess it's "rapidly changing" aspect that makes the difference.

Sorry, but I'm going to pass on joining the lynch mob on this one. Taunting someone for being a "man of God" sounds as intolerant as those who slurred the gay student. And despite being appropriately PC, far more hypocritical as well.
