Here's a quick update of the new Ice Dawgs here at State.

We finished our first season at the first ever Southeastern Hockey Conference Championships in Pelham, AL last month. Although we finished in last place we had some very exciting games against LSU and nationally ranked Tennessee.

Our overall record for the season was 2-10 with our two wins coming again Loyola NO at home in Tupelo, hope you were able to make those games. All games were very exciting. With our loyal fans traveling as far as Fayetteville, Arkansas we always had a big presence. Friends and family of team members have been traveling to all of our games, we even had more fans than Vandy while we were in Nashville. We greatly encourage MSU fans to travel with us and we are looking into the possibility of chartering buses to our away games next year for fans.

This week we will start working with the newly formed Ole Miss club team and the BancorpSouth Arena to schedule some home games. We expect to have 3 games against Ole Miss at the BSA starting in October with the first ever Egg Cup trophy awarded after the third game. We will also bring up other SEC clubs. We will have weekends where 2 other teams will come to Tupelo for double headers (ie: MSU v LSU and Ole Miss v Arkansas back to back). We are very excited to see fans for both teams at our events and will keep you posted.

If you would like a jersey you must e-mail me ASAP. I will be placing a jersey order in the next week or so and cannot order many extras so you must let me know if you'd like one soon. Send me an e-mail at [email protected] to inquire.

We are also giving away Mississippi State Ice Hockey T-shirts, free with a donation of $15+.

Our budget is very limited and if you'd like to support us we would greatly appreciate it. The best way to help is to get jerseys and shirts, if you already have a jersey for yourself start cutting down on your Christmas list in March.... eh, why not?

Thanks for all of your support through our first season and we look forward to seeing you at our games in Tupelo next fall.

seriously.

Find some sponsors and sell them small ad space on the poster, I'll print them for free. You should be able to raise a couple grand right there.

Saddawg may be able to find a willing model for you.

The way you have marketed the ice hockey team has been great... The club soccer team has been one of the most successful teams in the southeast at least for the past six years including making the national tournament a couple years ago, but you dont hear much about them. Yall have done a great job with the website, getting on the radio and in the newspapers.

Replica jerseys are free with a donation of $75+, authentic jerseys are $90. The only difference is that the elbows and shoulders are re-enforced on the authentic jerseys and they include a fight strap, nothing you'd need unless on the ice. If you'd like your name and number add $25. If you live in the GTR I will bring your jersey to you, otherwise add $8 for shipping.

I am planning to place the order by April 6th so place your order with me ASAP. Advanced payment is required. Also, keep in mind that the jerseys are not made yet, so it will take a while, up to three months.

I need your e-mail, phone number, and shipping address included in your e-mail order. I will e-mail you a copy of your invoice for you to review and confirm. I cannot order your merchandise without your invoice confirmation and payment.

Thanks again for your continued support

I'm actually in class right now and don't have any good pictures of the jerseys on my computer. I'll snap some photos of my jersey and post em later tonight

The BSA sold beer at our games last November, however some MSU high-ups were not happy. Although we didn't break any MSU rule they felt we took an unnecessary risk. We are working with the right people to minimize the risk and create a fun and safe environment. (the word "dry" has not entered my mind) We are doing everything we can so that everyone in attendance can enjoy the game we all love with or without beer.

I really enjoyed watching you guys and hearing the cowbells in the arena was cool too! The schedule poster is a great idea and I'd buy one from you if you sell them.
The best of luck to you and the rest of team!

I'd find six or eight sponsors to throw a logo on the poster and give them out like candy at Halloween, or posters with a hot girl on them at a football game.

I like the dark away jerseys. Like the previous poster said, make sure you get the NEW LOGO on them for next year. I have a buddy on the team and he tells me all about the games and the fights and how much fun yall had. He tells me "we went to a fight, and a hockey game broke out". Unfortunately, I could not make the games in Tupelo but will do my best to come see some next year.

It's foreign to me seeing the MSU logo on a hockey jersey but I hope it goes well for yall.

just make the last call at 10 minutes in the 3rd period like the predators do. If someone is willing to pay for 5+ dollar cups of beer to the point of getting drunk, let them. If you aren't charging at least 5, start doing it.

Also, I had every intention of going to the Vandy game up here since I live in the GNA. However, a 10 P.M. start time is pretty much going to count me out when it's a ~3 hour game. Please try to schedule around 7-8 P.M. if you can. I realize Centennial Sportsplex has other stuff going on, but most people would rather watch a cheap hockey game than go ice skating.

Quick question...what kind of OT rules do you guys use? Ties? Shootouts?

Best of luck in the future, hope to see you guys next year.

The only thing we have a say in when it comes to beer sales is whether or not beer will be sold. We DO NOT supply any beverages or food nor do we profit from beverage sales. (I must stress this issue because it was brought into question last year). We benefit from sales because the BCS Arena knows it will profit from beer sales at our games if allowed to sell and therefore lowers our cost to rent the arena.

As far as road games go: We have no say on what times we play on the road. Our first games were at LSU and we played them around 7:00pm on Friday and 3:00pm Saturday and we were hoping that would be the norm. However, it is the home teams decision for game times. The last thing I wanted to do was to play at Arkansas and Vandy at 10pm both nights and had to spend an extra night at each place. Was a big expense for the team that could've been used elsewhere but what can you do.

To be honest with you, I have no idea how OT works in this league. I don't even think I've heard of a game going into OT or ending in a tie (although I'm sure it happens). I'll look it up and see what I can find. If you want to know more about the American Collegiate Hockey Association check out they're website at www.achahockey.org.

Not sure whats going to happen with us for the new logos. Probably won't happen this year because the supplier we use requires a minimum order of 50 jerseys if they need to order more logos and because the logos for the home and away jerseys are different colors (reversed) we would need to order at least 100 jerseys in order to get them made, which is just not feasible right now.

For next year we most certainly will not have the money ready. We probably won't get the new logos for a few years, even if we had the cash there's a lot more stuff we could use the money for, i.e. a skate sharpening machine and a trailer. ...Actually, as long as the team is getting some attention: We are in need of an enclosed trailer to haul our gear on the road. If anyone has an old trailer and would like to donate it (or sell it cheap) let me know. We have no problem putting up advertisements for your business if you'd like. Last year we often used a 142cu.ft. UHaul trailer and it was hardly big enough, next year we will have more players and will need probably at least a 200cu.ft. trailer.

Thought I'd ask for some ideas, thanks everyone

Go find "Andi Dandridge" and "Angela James" since they are already famous. Someone has to know what tavern they hang out at in Vegas. Throw a couple sweaters on them with a stick, a helmet, and some skates in the shoot. It will be golden. Some guy at the Reflector could take the photos and some guy in the Art Dept. could do the layout for a couple of beers each. You gotta use the student body to keep the cost minimal and plaster some logo in the corner to pay for the remainder.

AD possibilities with talent like that in Hockey Sweaters, I'd think they would be there.

I actually shot back a few e-mails with saddawg and I already started moving on his suggestion: I'll stop by the sororities and ask each of them to pick one girl and have each of them wear a jersey with their greek letters on the back. Their backs will face the camera but they'll be looking behind them much like Leah Lail's right photo from Kentucky's poster.

As long as the sororities cooperate I think we'll be doing that. I have to give our current poster provider the first shot at making these, but if they can't give us the best product/price combo I will be contacting you 615dawg.

I think what we might do next year is print another team poster with ad space for sponsors and give those away for free, but we'll probably sell the girls/schedule poster for $3-$5 and discount them at the games in Tupelo.

I know a lot of y'all are from the Huntsville area [the Hockey capital of the south], and I commend you for your hard work, personal commitment, and personal expense in introducing the sport to MSU.

My boss's son [a former Bob Jones Player] plays for Bama, so I've had a lot of feedback on SEC hockey.

UAH, of course, started as a club team and is now D-1 in the NCAA.
Back then, so were Auburn, UT and others. Thirty years ago.

It's still kind of wierd to me to see a MSU logo on a hockey jersey, but I'm liking it.

Half a lifetime in Huntsville, hockey's just another sport...especially in a place where there's a high school hockey league.
And the UAH Chargers, and the Huntsville Havoc minor league team.
And several local rinks within a few miles.
And the HAHA, the Huntsville Amateur Hockey Association, for PeeWees and juniors.

Face off, Dawgs!
