Wilmington- Just keeps rolling. In an anyone can win it 3A, Wilmington is becoming a serious contender
Coal City- Beating Bishop Mac proved they have a legitimate shot at the 4A title. Starting to show more balance on offense and the defense bounced back nicely in week 2
Peotone- They just keep on grinding out wins. It was key for them to win their 2 non conference games and they did. Don’t sleep on Coach Tully and the boys
Lisle- Like Peotone they won two key non conference games. Not the kind of quality wins that make them a contender yet but we shall see
Herscher- Got exposed against a good 2A team in Clifton Central. Will need upset a few good ICE teams to get back in the conversation
Streator- Took a beating by Morton. Don’t see a lot of wins the rest of the way, have Wilmington at home this week. Let’s see how they bounce back. First meeting between the two
Reed Custer- Nice win, hopefully they can feed off of that, they have a big test in Peotone this week
Manteno- Lost two tough games. Had Morris on the ropes early but couldn’t stop the Redskin offense. Will need to beat every team in the conference not named Coal City and Wilmington from here on out

Not to nitpick, but Wilmington beat Streator last year 27-0 at Becker Field. Wilmo & Manteno played the round robin last season, the only I-8 schools to do so...

There appear to be three clumps in the conference right now...

Top:
Coal City has been tested. Wilmington has done what is needed methodically. Likely they are the favorites. 9-0, 8-1.

Second:
Peotone & Lisle played decent non-con schedules and won. Playoffs appear quite possible. 7-2,6-3 likely pic'em.

Third:
I don't know if any of them can get to 5 wins...

Manteno's upgraded non-con schedule has not helped them so far. They have a rough road to the playoffs now, I figured they might beat Canton. This week with Lisle is crucial...

Herscher has been exposed.

R/C remains a question.

Streator doesn't look very promising.

I was impressed at how well Manteno was coached, particularly offensively. They attacked Morris at every weak spot. They have a very good QB, receiver, and running back. I suspect they will score a few points on CC and Wilmington, will never beat them. Morris ended up with almost 600 yards of offense, but still impressed at their offensive scheme

I meant the to say the first time Wilmington played at Streator. That’s a fair assessment. I think Lisle and Peotone probably got themselves in to the playoffs with their two non conference wins, unless they lay an egg somewhere

Manteno is well coached, had a great run with some really good athletes a few years back. Big game for the Skins this Friday. Good luck

Playoff outlook so far.

I think Wilmo and CC have shown enough to say they are playoff locks

Lisle and Peotone will get to 5 wins no problem and 6 is more than likely too. For either of these two to not make it would be an epic meltdown

Herscher isn't donzo for sure but they would really have to play out of their minds to get in. If they get in I think that means that Lisle or Peotone would suffer a loss to the tigers and therefore decrease their odds of getting in. So not impossible but highly improbable.

Manteno losing 2 to start is a huge disadvantage. CC and Wilmo are two more losses. For you math scholars thats four losses. Nearly impossible for them to make playoffs already.

Streator and Reed Custer are the bottom of the conference. Playoffs are out of the question for the two of them. They are playing to chip off a few of the better teams and upset someone else at this point.

These scenarios really come down to weather or not Lisle and Peotone will hold as a upper-mid tier conference team. If they beat the teams they should then I see 4 of 8 ICE teams in the post season.

I'm not sure where the playoff points will be to get a team in. Either way I think that we will only see 6 win teams in from this conference. Herscher, Manteno, Braidwood, and Streator will all have 4 or less.

Playoff points for the bottom would be an issue getting into the playoffs.

The SVC has two winless - Dwight & Momence - and Iroquois West only beat a hapless Hoopeston. Herscher will get big points from Central and maybe nothing from Momence. RC will only get a point or two from Dwight, and Fieldcrest should be in the playoff hunt.

Manteno should get decent points from Canton (2-0, with 2 0-2 conference foes) and Morris.

Streator will get likely very little from East Peoria and Morton looks like they are playoff headed...East Peoria, Morton & Canton are all Mid-Illini members...

Lisle will get little from Harvard, but Elmwood Park should get to the playoffs...

Peotone will get little from Peoria Manuel, and Tinley Park has a rough road - probably 3 or 4 points there...

Coal City should have no problems with playoff points for their seeding.

Wilmington's hammering of 6A/7A border Oak Lawn Community looks pretty on paper, but won't help them with playoff points. Evergreen Park has 3 0-2 teams (including Oak Lawn Community), so they should make the playoffs...

I see Lisle and the tone having at least 6 each. Herscher May get to 5 but we shall see. Gonna take some upsets. I would imagine manteno is slightly more talented but the lack of a win in first two weeks really sets them behind the 8 ball.
