ICE Power Rankings

That middle pack of the ICE is really getting hard to gauge, heck even the very bottom is a challenge. 3-6 is completely up for grabs and I would say the same for 7 and 8.

1) Wilmington - Still on top until beaten
2) Coal City - Small bump in the road against Morris, but I don't see a challenge (not yet at least) until week 9 for the ICE championship
3) Peotone - Their two wins hold a little more weight than Manteno's, at least in my opinion. Peotone has also given up the second fewest points (9) only behind Wilmington's 7.
4) Manteno - Could be argued for the 3 spot, but I think a better placement will be determined here soon. Would have liked to see more points put up against an awful Plano team.
5) Lisle - Lisle is scoring. They also aren't giving up a ton of points either. I'm not sure that their two wins mean much as of right now and I know by week 6 they will have lost twice, but this could shape up to be a nice season for the Lions.
6) Reed-Custer - I did not drop RC solely because of the loss to St. T, because I do think they are a sneaky good team. I would have liked to see them keep that game closer though. I just think Lisle is trending up right now and RC will have to prove themselves in the next couple of weeks.
7) Streator - Streator scored a lot against Ottawa. That's really the only thing putting them here over Herscher.
8) Herscher - That Canton loss still doesn't sit well with me. They also got destroyed against Mac and I would have liked to see at least some points for the Tigers in that one.

Reed-Custer (1-1) @ Streator (1-1) - I think this game will tell a lot about Braidwood. Beside the super class at Braidwood a few years back, this has always been a close game actually. Streator has earned a few wins against Braidwood since 2019 as well. If Braidwood is able to put it on them here I will feel more comfortable about them going forward. I'm not sure if they will be able to do that or not, but I do see RC coming out victorious. Streator is able to keep it close for a little bit and then RC pulls away. RC 45 Streator 32

Coal City (1-1) @ Lisle (2-0) - Lisle will come back to earth after this one. CC will have a bad taste in their mouth after the loss to Morris and they will come out and take care of business. I will be curious to see if Lisle can score like they have been against CC though. I don't think it will be a shoot out and I think CC clocks them. Coaler 42 Lisle 14

Manteno (2-0) @ Herscher (0-2) - Manteno should have no problems here and Herscher continues their downward slide. Manteno 35 Herscher 18

Wilmington (2-0) @ Peotone (2-0) - GOTW! If Peotone can keep it close that will be a great sign that the Tone really is back. Their defense has been good as I previously mentioned, but those offenses are not to the level of the grinding double wing of Wilmo. Wilmington controls this one and wins with ease. Wilmo 42 Peotone 21

Lisle has been with this group of schools since the early 1990’s.
Their enrollment fits.

If my memory is correct, they replaced Yorkville, who had become too big and too successful in the old Interstate 8, which was the league all these teams used to be in.

Edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Interstate_Eight_Conference
In the stone age when I played,Lisle was top dog....It was the Northeast Conference...Minooka,Yorkville,Lisle,Dwight,Seneca,Wilmington,Coal City and I think Westmont. I remember playing Marseilles one year too. Not sure when they closed.

Lemont might have been in that league. Wilmo and Coal City used to play Lemont non conference up until the mid 90s

Please don't forget that Wilmington is, per the IHSA, going for their 500th win in school history.
Are they? I have heard this mentioned a few times, however the season summaries on IHSA has them at 501 wins as of the end of last season. Meaning 500 would have been the semi-final game last year.

ICE Week 3 🧊

Reed-Custer (1-1) @ Streator (1-1) - The Bulldog Offense showed it has a pulse and I think they keep it rolling at home against a Comet team that has no identity. Streets 34 RC 19.

Coal City (1-1) @ Lisle (2-0) - The Coalers are happy to put the Morris game in the rear view mirror and start the conference schedule off right. CC 42 Lisle 6

Manteno (2-0) @ Herscher (0-2) - The Panthers go into Herscher and spank the lowly Tigers on both sides of the ball. CLOCK

Wilmington (2-0) @ Peotone (2-0) - Trap game? The Blue Devils are at home and off to a good start in 2026!!! The Cats are coming off a historic weekend with tons of celebration which makes them ripe for a letdown, correct??? Oooops, my bad 😏 Reents has too many whiskers for that sort of nonsense. Wilmo 41 Peotone 13

Solid Power Rankings by Wilmatucky heading into the conference schedule!

1 , 2 , 5 , 8 are solid as a rock imo. Peotone and Manteno could flip flop depending on the results of their games. It's only fitting that Streets and RC lock horns for the #6 spot. I've heard on more than one occasion that they don't like each other.

HaHa, thanks. What really kills me the most is teams no longer have to fight for every win to get to 5-4 to make the playoffs. I guess maybe the silver lining is we will have more games with playoff implications.

Surprised a few people are picking Streator to "upset" Braidwood. If 3-6 is the new cutting point for playoffs, then this game will be huge for them. I am assuming that Herscher will be this years ICE doormat. Honestly though, if it wasn't for an undefeated Tone/Wilmo matchup I think Streator/RC will actually be a good GOTW candidate. I bet it will be the closest game of the week in the ICE.

Qualifying for the playoffs used to be a badge of honor in football. Do the 4-5's and 3-6's and God forbid 2-7's do t-shirts?? Total participation trophy in my book 🤡🏆

Reed-Custer over Streator in a fun and close game, comes down to the wire. Comets by 2

Lisle might be an ok team but haven't played a quality opponent, Coal City will bring Lisle back to varsity football in a very real way, especially on a very hot night, depth will really hurt Lisle. Coalers by as much as they want.

Manteno wins when they get off the bus for the 2nd week in a row. Things are not going well in Tiger country but maybe they can make this a game.

Peotone always seems to play Wilmington tough but always seem to fall short. But win over Eisenhower was ok and Marengo is always a solid opponent. Wilmington pounded Morrison, not sure how good Morrison is, but Mac looks to be a 3A contender. Wildcats by few scores.

HoI, El Paso looks extremely good but staying healthy will be key for them to have a deep run. Same can be said for Tri Valley but they are a few steps behind EPG. And with MF trending north at this time, 2A north could be a lot of fun.

EPG looks like Clubber Lang in the first fight.

Not a very exciting week for the ICE. Lisle held their own for a quarter and expected Peotone to put up more of a challenge.

Does Lisle have a shot next week to knock off Peotone?

Has Manteno solidified itself as the 3rd best?

Herscher is in for a long season, is there a win on their schedule?

I agree Manteno has secured the #3 spot heading into week 4.

All eyes on Lisle at Peotone this week.

Herscher has Streator at home week 6. Probably their best shot at a W.
