John Calipari's move to Kentucky is mostly an ego thing of him going to a "dream job". However, how many programs/teams have had multiple iconic coaches? In otherwords, if you want to make a big mark to history, would he have been better served staying in Memphis and winning a few championships there instead of going to Kentucky?

Almost all of the winning teams (other than the Yankees and maybe even Kentucky and Notre Dame) are really based on a single coach being successful Alabama=Bear, Duke=Coach K, UCLA=Wooden, Indiana=Knight, Green Bay=Lombardi, etc. Even those few teams that have done it thru multiple coaches, there is still one guy who is the dominant name (Rupp for example). The Yankees are the one team I can name more than one iconic coach (McCarthy, Stengel, Torre)

Basketball:
Indiana - McCracken and Knight (the only college with more than one coach that's won multiple titles at that school)
North Carolina - Smith, McGuire, Williams.
Duke - Coach K and Bubas
Kansas - Allen, Williams, and Naismith.
Kentucky - Rupp and Pitino. Maybe Hall too.
Football:
Alabama - Bryant, Wade - to name two.
Notre Dame - Rockne, Parseighan (sp?), maybe Holtz.
USC - McKay and Carroll
Oklahoma - Wilkinson and Switzer
Miami - Schnellenberger and Johnson

Edited to add an additional sport and coaches

Ole Miss football - Sloan, Orgeron

Seriously, I think you could say that Florida with Spurrier and Meyer may be on that path, if Meyer sticks around for 10 years.

Texas had Darrell Royal and now Mack Brown.

I don't know much about USC's history, but I know they had some good years a long time ago, so they likely had an iconic coach before Carroll. You might be able to say Tressell at Ohio State joins Woody Hayes as an icon.

there are plenty of good examples in college football, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Michigan. In the pros, the Lakers would be a good example, the Bears, the Packers.
