Florida and Louisville have had success in BOTH sports, why can't UK?

Didnt you hear? It's the magical evil fairy of the past that won't let up on us. Every year they sprinkle Uk football with loser dust and we are doomed from the start. Just listen to the 4 that won't shut up about it. I think they're on to something.

Basketball is more fun to watch, more popular around the world, and is a major part of our state's culture. I would rather win the championship in basketball than win a football game. The football program is what it is and it's not changing.

No one is blaming the basketball team; the OP has simply put forth the proposition of trading one for the other. That is it. Can the false rhetoric. It's a simple matter of which would you prefer. Nothing more. Dear Lord.

Given the likelihood of each program winning and losing I'd choose the football team lose all games and the basketball team go undefeated.

That's not choosing one program over the other just what is more reasonable to expect given what we've seen so far.

No sane person would argue otherwise. I love the basketball team but I derive much more satisfaction from a football win. We play a couple good November and December opponents in basketball, slog through the miserable SEC slate, and then finally the SEC Tournament and dance start when it becomes legitimately engaging. Hence to me, I person don't care about the basketball wins. Hell all we have to do is wi. The SEC Tournament and we dance. We could go 0-0 fer and make the postseason. That simply can't happen in football because the games all matter, and are more financially beneficial to the entire athletics department and university. Even with a loser program it still keeps the lights on. Business 101 tells you to o vest your money, heavily, into football success first and foremost.

Actually, you're the damned idiot. Considering the OP was positing exactly that, an either or scenario, responding in kind was entirely appropriate. I'm also perfectly entitled to feel that I would prefer football wins to basketball wins. Back up and punt buttercup, you've stumbled onto the wrong board.
Nah, don't think I will and you're as big an idiot as the OP. See, I'm a fan of the University of Kentucky. Not just football...not just basketball. This isn't an either/or situation. The success (or lack thereof) of either program isn't connected. A real fan shouldn't want to sacrifice success in either sport.
You should want to win every game in every sport the university participates in. So, "buttercup" you might want to check yourself before you go offering UK basketball on the sacrificial alter.

Please point out where I said I "want to sacrifice success in either sport". I said I like football more than basketball. I also said I want all programs to win.

LOL

The basketball regular season ratings are currently at an all time low. Football ratings are at an all time high. Just last year (or maybe year before) the Little Ceasers Bowl feating MAC champ vs a Sun Belt team went head to head with the UK vs. UL basketball game. Wanna take a guess on who had more viewers?

No one gives a crap about college basketball.

100% with you. Basketball is nice and all but who frickin cares. Football is what moves the needle and a portion of our fan base needs a swift kick in the *** to wake up to that fact.
Football moves what needle? Your basketball hating posts while claiming to be a UK fan are approaching stupidity at this point. 99% of UK fans reject your post.

STOP SPLITTING THIS FAN BASE INTO PIECES. WE ARE UK FANS, AND IF YOU'RE NOT, IF YOU PICK ONE SPORT OVER THE OTHER, THEN YOU NEED TO FIND ANOTHER UNIVERSITY FOR YOUR FANDOM. WE DONT NEED THAT HERE. WE NEED TO PUT THE SAME AMOUNT OF SUPPORT WE DO IN BASKETBALL INTO FOOTBALL AND VISE VERSA.

This ignorant crap right here is exactly what Verne (regardless of the veracity of his anecdote) was alluding too during the broadcast, and why I got such guff on here for agreeing with him. I love what Cal is doing. It does not change the fact I would trade him for Nick Saban in a New York minute. Big boy football matters more for finances, for fan support, for merchandise sales, for university enrollment numbers, for economic prosperity in the community. Basketball at its zenith doesn't come close. Even at Kentucky football brings in more money and there is a significant portion of our fans who still just don't get any of this. It's like trying to explain basic economics to 5 year olds. I'm glad the basketball is killing it. I can't wait for Big Blue Madness. But I want winning football more by a country mile. No other fan base in the south would have to put up with radio caller's asking about the new basketball coach after their programs largest win in 60 years nor posts such as I've quoted above that essentially say "haha basketball is good and football isn't. " It's absurd.

I'm going to have a hard time buying you're a fellow alumnus with your previous posts in this very thread. Clearly you stopped at English 102 on whatever degree path you chose. Logic 101 must not have been on your schedule either considering you deign to know my level of interest and support of various Kentucky athletics endeavors based on a few posts on this board. Football first and football only are two entirely different phrases. If you only like basketball or only marginally support football that's your prerogative fella, but please quit wasting my time attempting bandy back and forth over this completely meaningless issue. The short version is I'm allowed to have my feelings on the program and you are yours, but I really don't give a flip whether you like mine or not. I'll sleep just fine either way. Good night and Go Big Blue.

Please show me once where I blamed the basketball team explicitly for today's, or any loss ever, by the football team. Please; I'll wait. It's not my fault you struggle with reading comprehension.

If Louisville had been in the SEC for the last 30 years, I doubt they'd be any better than Kentucky. Probably not as good. Perhaps I should phrase that "probably worse".

you said the team had been great for 70-80 years. it obviously wasn't great when billy was coach, so your statement was false. sorry you can't keep up with what you say.

The people of Kentucky care more about bb and they don't care if football is more popular overall , that's what matters here . You can go on about popularity , revenue , attendance , needle moving , bill payers and any other irrelevant factor but bb runs this state , runs this schools decision making and is the most popular sport by far .

Hell no. I want football success as much as the next person, but trading an entire season of prime basketball for one win against UF (which may or may not do anything for the team in the long run -- look at Joker's streak-breaking win over Tennessee) is madness. CBB may not be as big nationally as CFB, but I even know people overseas who know about the reputation of UK basketball; and the majority of them follow virtually nothing but the NBA!

I'm not going to call anyone an idiot, but I sincerely hope alcohol or other drugs were fueling the suggestion.
