Only hope is that it hits in those lesser populated areas of Louisiana, between Lafayette and Baton Rouge, and maybe those low-lying marshlands can slow it down. I hate to see that big turn too, because it's just going to churn.

But we all know how this goes. It's about to 17 up Mississippi.

I called my parents yesterday and asked them to get their generator serviced and propane tank filled.
Hoping it's not to bad in the River City.

Interesting - at the current forward speed, it'll only take 1.5 days to reach Louisiana yet there are no evacuations for Nola yet (which is squarely on the NE of the eye w/ that projected path)? Not saying they should begin this minute, but you'd think they'd have at least announced planned evacuations to begin at some point tomorrow?

When the wind gets up to about 130 while it's in the central gulf they'll get in a hurry.

What’s worse is there is supposed to be heavy rain over the next day ahead of the storm. Some spots as much as 5 inches. That’s just going to add to the problems.

Good news is the eye went right over Isla De Juventud which has a decent elevation so that may weaken it a little.

I've had to travel into the southern Mississippi delta twice this past week and there are some fine looking cotton and soybean crops fixing to get ruined. I sure hate it for those folks. Everyone seems to be doing all they can to get their corn crops harvested before the storm rolls in. Good luck to you folks that farm! Maybe we'll get lucky and it'll be a dud.

We’re talking about heading out of Ocean Springs tomorrow, would you rather ride this out in Brandon, Meridian, or Starkville (Cotton District)? I’m not sure any of those are good choices but if for some reason it doesn’t stay West and turns East I damn sure don’t want to be on the MS Coast.

Of those options, Meridian would be my choice. Starkville #2. I wouldn’t go to Brandon. Much much likelier to experience power outages there than the other two.

You guys take precautions for this one. That is almost the same track as Camile and nothing has really taken any of the energy out of the hot water in the Gulf, no sheer, or dry air to screw with it. Let me put it the way, this originally was forecast to be a minimum Cat 2. Now they are saying 140 mph. Katrina went to Cat 5 which is 15 but it made landfall in the 130's so this will be pushing A LOT of water and high wind.

Please take precautions if you are in South LA or MS.
