If MSU everput a family member's name ona building as ugly as Spaceship Henry, I'd sue the school for defamation of character.

The only thing that could redeem that building would be to rename it after Larry Templeton.

Being in Operational Meteorology, I had to take all the way through Differential Equations which was ridiculous. I suck at Calculus, and I still have nightmares of when I walkedinto my Diff Eq final anddidn't knowwhat the hell went on the entire semester and thought I would have to retake the class. Got a D, which was all I needed to pass. But man I hate that building.

How about just one hill? From Poultry Science to Ballew. Damn it's 3rd world there, especially ITS.

One building: Dorman. Hands down.

As much of a hell hole it is to be an engineer in there it's a great place to be during tornado weather.

Hunter Henry himself wanted the building designed that way. And when that's a condition of getting the money, you suck it up and get the money.

something more traditional and what we have now. ALLEGEDLY, the chancellor of the University of Alabama system urged him to choose what we have now. That can't plant enough huge trees aroudn that thing to mask it.

Personally, I wouldn't take out any of our campus. It's been great for a long time and is getting better every day. If I had to choose one thing it would be that so-called sculpture in front of Allen (A Noble Past, A Promising Future). I haven't been by there in years so I guess it's probably already gone.

You know what would be great would be an open-air walkway of statues showing something of the cultural and athletic history of MSU.

McCarthy is totally worthless and an eyesore given the prime location where it sits.

New building planned for that location will mirror the new Ag & Bio Engineering building, creating a new plaza/quad type area.

I have some great memories from there in the early and mid 60's. Got to watch our great BB teams then....ranked #4 in 1962 and #6 in 1963. Those were the days.....and yes I know I am old.

...I still had no clue what was going on in DEQ2.

taking the English version of the class might have helped. in fact, it did, the second time through.

but you're right, those damn little elementary school desks are ridiculous. stick the damn education majors or something in there, the engineers shouldn't have to suffer it.

i'm kinda shocked that meteorologists had to take DEQ. or hell, calculus.

Yeah they may look good but didn't Old Main teach us about making Dorms out of 2x4's.

Youwere out of school before the Ole Miss ATO fire, when MSU went a bit crazy and made all the frats retrofit in sprinkler systems (but of course ignored campus-owned buildings). ZV was built after that, so i doubt that it was built without extensive fire safety features. But then again, when it comes to MSU and something that would save a buck........

apparently it is moving up the priority chain as well based on recent financial commitments.

The building is out of place, looks old/terrible, and its locationone of thekey areas of campus that makes it even more necessary for it to come down. Not to mention it doesn't correlate with anything that surrounds it.</p>

It's not just MSU. New dorms were built all over the Southeast as either type 5 for smaller 3 story buildings or type 3B for up to 5 stories in wood. All of Atlantic Station in Atlanta and almost every new in-town apartment complexes are Type 3B. A few rare ones were Type 2 because they wanted to get 6 stories or more.
I've seen the retro-fit fire sprinklers but to be honest they're probably a good idea. The newer apartment/dorms that are 3B still are sprinklered, have a 1 hour minimum fire seperation between each unit, and a 2 hr rated exterior wall. And most of the plenums are sprinklered as well. Of course the weekly 'Apartment Fire' segment is a staple in Atlanta.
Frankly I hate 3B (when it uses 'fire retardant wood') those buildings will be falling apart in 20 years.

because if you honestly think you "won" that discussion, then you are mentally retarded. I told you I wasn't going to contribute anything additional to your trolling and I meant it. I did point out your blatent lies, but you never responded to any of my main points - as usual. I made my points, they speak for themselves, and you posted unrelated complete and utter ********. Par for the course.

I don't dislike you for yesterday, I dislike you because you are an unlikeable person in general.

The backdrop to the junction should be something the University should be proud of. Dorman reminds me of everything I hate about my JUCO days. Some roided out nickelback fan tried to burn it down once but a tornado would do just fine.

Hunter Henry himself wanted the building designed that way. And when that's a condition of getting the money, you suck it up and get the money.

Having big donors is obviously vital, and they should be catered to a certain amount, but I think you have to draw the line at letting them do whatever they want architecture-wise. They can and should be involved, but I think if their ego and personal tastes are more important to them than what's best for the school, then they can spend their money somewhere else.

The university doesn't exist so that they have a playground to show off their wealth. Many Ole Miss alumni need to be reminded of this.
