commit to MSU and he qualifies we would have a legit argument to be in the top 15 range. With Sidney's size and skill he would instantly be the most talented player on what would already be a very good team. Further, he fills our two biggest needs from last year: size down low and a go to player that can create his own shot. He was the West MVP of the Jordan Classic. Great job if Stansbury pulls this off.

I would argue that Phil and Raven could create thier own shot and I'm not sold that he (Sidney) would be our go to guy.

That said he would be huge and would make us a much better team.

I hope this team isn't in the top 15 pre-season (which they won't be) because we seem like we respond to being the underdog better than being the favorite. (See Ole Miss game and SEC tournament).

we won't start as a top 15 team but Sidney fits perfectly as the missing piece to making us a top level team. Adding him to the frontcourt with Augustus and Varnado would give us a frontcourt rotation with a lot of scoring ability.

Or we could go big and put Kodi at SF which bumps someone else. I say start JV, Kodi, Sidney, Turner, Bost. Bring Stewart off the bench to replace either Turner or Bost with Elgin coming in for low post. Stewart has never impressed me as a starter. I thought he did a better job off the bench. That would also be a hell of a rebounding team.

is coached by Rick Stansbury that does not include Barry Stewart is wrong. Unless Stewart is dragging one of his legs he will be in the starting line-up. That is as solid a call as saying the sun will rise in the morning. That said, I would predict that if Sidney came to MSU the lineup would be:

5- Varnado
4- Sidney
3- Ravern
2- Stewart
1- Bost

Augustus backs Sidney who would rotate in for Varnado when Varnado rests. Bailey picks up the remaining minutes. Lewis gets garbage minutes to get him ready for the next year.
Osby backs Ravern
Turner backs Stewart and Bost
Beckham backs Bost
Benock gets some minutes on the perimeter with Smith redshirting.

that would keep him from starting. I can't see him in college for more than a year. The MSU situation has to be appealing to him as Varnado will pick up his slack on defense and prevent him from being doubled on offense. Likewise Bost has to be a big plus to him.

starting Augustus over Ravern at the three? Reason being, I think Augustus is a better defensive player than Ravern, can rebound better, and can still score. Plus, if Kodi doesn't start this year, I could see him sulking and bringing the entire team down.

So, my lineup

1. Dee- No brainer. Do hope he becomes more of a consistent scorer, but I'm happy with him as a PG, even if he averages 2 points a game. He ran the team well, and I think he will continue to get even better.
2. Randy- Stansbury favorite. Plus, he will hopefully realize that he doesn't need to be "the leader" and that all he needs to do is spot up and shoot threes, which along with being a senior will hopefully decrease his SEC record for air balls.
3. Kodi- See above. All he has to do is what Stansbury wants him to do. Which is play defense and rebound in addition to his favorite on court activity- scoring.
4. Sidney- Please come. That is all. We go from Phil Turner to a guy who is 6'10" 270. If he is as good as advertised, he should held Swat with rebounding and they can possibly make each other more effective.
5. Swat- No brainer. Please come back. That is all. Would like to see him continue to improve as a scorer, but again, he plays defense so well, it's hard to really complain. And it's not like he's Wesley Morgan as far as scoring.
6th man- Ravern- because he can score in bunches. Phil has to be mentioned because of his energy.

Of course you may be right, because I don't think of defense when I think of either one of them.

If we get Sidney, we would be one of the few teams in the country to have 2 potential first round picks in the frontcourt.

If I was coach, we would have an 8-man rotation.

I would start:
PG: Bost
SG: Barry
SF: Turner
PF: Sidney
C: Varnado

I would bring Ravern, Kodi, and Osby off the bench. That's it. No one else would play unless the game was a blowout.

I will admit that the thought- wait a minute, wasn't the whole reason for Augustus getting benched his defense.

It's bad when you are questioning your own posts. I probably should have just stopped at he's a better rebounder. And I do think that Ravern would be better suited for coming off of the bench than Kodi.

all this talk reminded me of somebody saying that this past season... of all the delusional sixpack posters whoever said that might be the worst.
I'm not getting any hopes up on Sidney. It would just be too good to be true. Although I don't know if he's a "he'll only be here one year" type of player, as someone said.

ravern does not create his own shot, but he is capable of knocking it down from anywhere on the court, which is a valuable asset in itself. couple that with players who can create their own shot (bost, turner, kodi) and an inside scoring threat (sidney) who will compliment one of the best defenders in the nation, and i'd say this potential addition would make our team extremely well-rounded, not to mention deep.

you can speculate on whether or not it makes us a top 15 team, sec favorite, yadda yadda yadda, but the one thing i think everyone can agree on is that it makes us incredibly dangerous, and capable of making a deep run. if jarvis stays and sidney signs, sweet 16 becomes the minimum expectation in my mind, regardless of stansbury's troubles making it there and beyond.

Sure, the guy is obviously going to be a beast, but we're talking about a player's potential. People said the same thing about Osby last year and how he was "ready to play right now in the SEC; he's THAT good". We all see how that turned out.

Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have him, but to think he'd be starting with all of the work he's done to keep Kodi is a little far fetched. Remember Osby will be better as well and Bailey isn't complete garbage.

17 winning the West- 2010 is about what this team does in the NCAA's. We have a joke of a pre-SEC schedule and should be one of the top 2 in the SEC...we play Tenn and Kentucky at home..we won 23 last year

30 wins and a minimum Sweet 16

but he'll be good at clogging the middle and getting rebounds while he learns to play hard and get in shape. Apparently he just likes to hang around the three point line and rarely goes inside on offense.

He apparently does not have a good post game, but he's great facing up. You can teach a big man post moves. You can't teach size. And someone his size who can shoot from outside is always a plus.

I do agree that he's probably over-hyped and needs to work on both his game and his attitude. But I think he could come in and average 10 points per game as a true freshman. And that's something I'd gladly take.

is more an attitude thing than a talent thing. This kid has been incredibly hyped since his days at Piney Woods. I'd be surprised if his handlers let him stay in school past the minimum.

even with a supposedly solid commitment to USC, he was talked into visiting here by Stans & Kirby after they flew out to visit on Tuesday night or Wednesday of this week. The fact that it took that little time to go from a coach visit to on campus is probably a good sign we have a legit shot at him.

A lot of people were expecting Scotty Hopson to average 15 points per game for us last year, and instead he wound up averaging just under 10 per game for Tennessee.

at least 21 games on our schedule already that we will be the favorite in and its not even finished yet. And you know in those other 3 games we arent scheduling anybody worth a ****- so that would make at least 24 games we would be favored in before SEC and NCAA Tournies

that he was West MVP of the Jordan Classic and was listed as number 7 in the final 2009 rankings. Is this you baiting or did rebelbruiser steal your username?
