If Beamer goes 5 - 7 will he be on the hot seat?

Yes, I think every coach in the SEC is one 5-7 season away from the hot seat, with the possible exceptions of Lea at Vandy and Smart at UGA, and those coaches who are already on the hot seat and would simply be fired after a 5-7 season.

To answer your question directly: Yes, if he goes 5-7 this season with all the hype and expectations coming off of last season, yes, he will be on the hot seat. Fired? No. Hot seat? Yes.

In the minds of some fans and media clickbait articles -- of course.

In the minds of the AD -- no chance.

+ Brand New Contract through 2030 with hefty buyout
+ Coming off one of the Top 5 seasons ever.
+ Best Start in Program History to spite Recruiting Bottleneck (NIL) (50+ games of data)
+ Program has positive National Attention; High Profile Players
+ Broke CU Home Record / Beaten Them Twice in DV

Not to mention, there's a legit chance we won't be favorites in half of the games we play this season because of our limited talent base in relation to the rest of the SEC.

The official hotseat would come in 2027 if he records two losing seasons in a row.

If he were to win 5 games this season and follow it up with 4 or less the following (pull a Muschamp), that might expedite things at the end of next season but even that is an outside shot. The AD doesn't want another big buyout stain.

I don't think there should be hotseat talk this season. A failure of a season would open it for that offseason though.

It would open the discussion for Lurker & The BOTs.

For the life of me, I can't understand why anyone would be thinking about Beamer's departure right now.

Beamer Derangement Syndrome (BDS) is very real. :)

Beamer has exceeded MY expectations 3 of his 4 seasons here. One season, he led us to a number 23 ranking. Another one, he led us to number 19. Let him really screw up before talking this nonsense. This should not be a thread, imho.

And who do you think we could get who's better than Beamer ?

No - we should be out of the cycle of hiring/firing. He is here for the long haul and that’s good. I really think he is like Dabo but with more class and definitely more likeability. They almost fired Dabo but Clemson had enough sense to let him stay and build a program. Beamer knows what he is doing so leave him be. You don’t think we - or just about any other SEC team - can’t end 5-7 you are fooling yourself. Ask Venables what can happen when things don’t go right. Not comparing situations since he hasn’t been at Okie that long. This isn’t the ACC folks. We are capable of beating - or losing to - any team in the conference. So is everyone else. You haven’t forgotten Vandy > Bama already have you?

You Beamer supporters are making good points, but I'm not sure I'm resigned to 5-7 or 6-6 as the norm with an occasional 8 or 9 win season every fifth year or so.

I don't see the reason for this hype you are talking about.

Why bring this up ?
Well don't forget there was meme after the bowl game. And some tweets I think. Some posters now believe their manhood is forfeit if they express any support for Beamer, because there have never been any other memes of coaches. Or tweets.

If he went 5-7 two years in a row he'd be on the hot seat. He could go 2-10 this season and be safe, especially if Sellers were injured or there was a rash of injuries in general.

Not the hot seat but 2026 will become a "prove it" year. I would say even 6-6 this year will shift things for him. Right now he has all the momentum towards proving he's the real deal. Falling flat this year wipes all that away. Of course, if he delivers a 9+ win season, then expectations will also ramp up for 2026.

If you lose, you're expected to win. If you win, you're expected to win more.

That's been the norm?
No. I read a few replies that said he won't be on the hot seat if he goes 5-7 implying that 5-7 is acceptable. Some have said here that we are destined to be a middle of the SEC pack team and we can't do better than Beamer. I think if he follows 9-4 with 5-7, his seat should be warm.

If anyone on this thread had been told that we would hire a coach on the heels of the Muschamp debacle who would have more wins than any coach in our history after 4 seasons, they would have leaped at it.

Unlike Spurrier, Beamer came in with zero branding other than "Beamer's Boy."

He's represented the University very well throughout his entire tenure and players seem to really gravitate to him.

His only "down year" thus far was in 2023 when all of Rattler's main outlets (Wells, Lloyd, Bell, etc.) walked becuase they could be paid better elsewhere.

No other coach in our history has had to deal with that BS.

This is not a personality contest.

Pay attention to results and appreciate what we have today.

Beamer is averaging 7.25 wins per season. That is about what is considered good/acceptable at South Carolina. As long as he can maintain that 7 win average, he will have a job for as long as he wants to stay. He can go 5-7 for a couple seasons with no problem as long as he rebounds with an 8 or 9 win season after that. There is no pressure at all for him to win any sort of championship.

A long drought to Clemson, even if he is going 7-5, could put him on the hot seat faster than a few 5-7 seasons with wins against Clemson thrown in along the way.

After 4 seasons, he's got the most wins of any coach in school history and just signed a big contract.

You would have never been talking about what Spurrier "needs to do" at this juncture with Beamer's performance to date.

Relax.

Not to mention that Shane had never been an OC or DC. 😛

I post that sarcastically, but that's the BS that was posted over and over by the "home run hire" obessors posting at the time we fired Muschamp.

Shane has proven that there's a lot more to being a successful HBC than just having OC or DC experience. He is the opposite of Fat Brad.

Beamer is exactly ONE win better than Spurrier over the same period, he is only three wins ahead of Muschamp, 7 ahead of Holtz (Holtz had 0 wins his whole first season), he isn't exactly lighting up the record book. His big contract is a mark of stupidity on our administration more than it is somehow proof that Beamer is doing great.

I recall myself and plenty of other people talking about their disappointment with Spurrier after four seasons. He had lost at least 5 games every season and was 1-2 in bowl games at that point. He hardly looked like one of the greatest college coaches ever. I guess you and your crowd only remember the 2011 to 2013 seasons. Outside of those three seasons, Spurrier lost at least 5 games every season. Then, Spurrier quit on the team mid season because he lost interest in the team and the job, that is unforgivable in my book.

Beamer is doing well enough for South Carolina right now. Let's see how this season goes with all the hype and then we'll see if he keeps up the pace or if we start hearing about how he needs this or that to take the next step.

Beamer is up by that one win because Spurrier had an 11 game season too.

But every time I heard "best record in first four years", it just reminded me of muschamp's "best record in the first three years".

And you're right, there was a lot of grumbling about Spurrier at this point in his tenure. Maybe we get lucky and Beamer quiets that with 3 straight 11 win seasons?

It was well reported that Spurrier wanted to retire after the prior season, but was talked out of it by Ray. I put the blame for Spurrier bailing mid-season equally on him.

Yeah, if Spurrier had gotten that extra cupcake 12th game, Beamer would be tied with him in wins. Of course, then some posters would be crowing about "he has matched the record of the best coach in Carolina history".

The bottom line is; both Beamer and Spurrier (Muschamp too, for that matter) have been a little better than mediocre in their records at this point in their careers at Carolina. In a 12 game season, coaches generally start the season with 4 or 5 wins in their pocket. Winning 7 games isn't exactly something to get effusive praise for.

This.

The bottom line is that all 3 were mediocre to begin. (Ill give Beamer and muschamp a nod for their 9 win seasons, this offset a losing season for each, imo. )

But comparing Beamer to Spurrier's worst years is not a compelling argument to me. If he can put together 2 or 3 11 win seasons, I'll start to compare the two.
