If Bianco does not make it to OMAHA this weekend?

I think eventually if he doesn't get over that hump, then yes we need to move on, but still too early for that to happen. On one hand, I get tired of falling just short, but he's had us as a perennial Top 15 team, and he took us to a share of our first SEC baseball title in over 30 years. You can't argue with those results. The postseason run has eluded him, but that's all he's lacking. I think it'll happen for him sooner rather than later.

I've been calling for him to get over that hump this year , and I honestly believe that when he finally does take a team over that hump, he'll get there a lot more often. Sometimes all it takes is that one to open the flood gates mentally for future teams.

I surely didn't see us winning the SEC this year, not with the players we have. We certainly have not underperformed this year, even without making a super.

In fact, it's very damn good. I know its frustrating to lose in so many super regionals, but it's a hell of a lot better taking your chances with a new coach, even if that coach has been to the CWS with his current team. Remember, when we re-hired Polk he had just taken Georgia to the CWS and his tenure here was a disaster.

Bianco caught a break by getting Bittle back so this is the team he would've had.

It is super impressive that his initial choice for a Friday night guy was a flop and he still has a damn good rotation.

In any sport, and in baseball especially, playoff success can depend a lot on chance. You can get a favorable draw and advance far because of that. Your pitchers can have an off weekend, or your opponent's pitchers can have an on weekend, and you can not advance.

So to me, the fact that he keeps getting us into position yearly is impressive. Eventually I say he has to prove he can get over that hump, but unless the level of play of the team drops off in the near future, I'd have a hard time saying you need to get rid of him. If he keeps us playing consistently at this level year after year, not only will he break through, but he'll probably break through quite a bit.

If we were to fall off and not host a regional for the next four years and also not make it to Omaha at all during that stretch, then I'd say maybe it would be time to push him out, but not right now if we were to hypothetically not make it this year.

Regardless, I'm still calling for this year to be his year to get over the hump. I just have a feeling, and if it does happen, this discussion will be moot, or mute for the Scout board regulars.

And while we have been to Omaha, we've only been once in the past 11 years. That isn't exactly anything to brag about. Since the super regional format came out, we've been to 3 super regionals and UM has been to 4. And in the past 5 years, they've been to 4 and we've been to 1. Their baseball program is light years ahead of where ours was under Polk II.

I hope we make it to Omaha but I don't see how, if you're OM, you fire a guy for not making it especially with the consistent success he's had there.

Should Ole Miss look in a different direction??
Are you Coach34? Seriously? Firing Bianco after 5 supers in 6 years? He's the reason Ole Miss even has remote expectations in baseball, and he basically put the program on the map.
It's one thing if you're Nebraska football, you're used to success, and you're not happy w/ Frank Solich b/c he never got over the 9-10 win hump. But if you've never even tasted success and you start to compete for SEC titles year in year out like Bianco and Stans? They're the reason we have expectations b/c they keep putting us in position year after year.

It does not take a rocket scientist to see that Ole Miss has, for the short term, surpassed our baseball program. Traditionally, sure, we still have the better history. But it's just that - history. They are dominating us this decade, and that's all that really counts when you think about it. I firmly believe we can recover and overtake them again. But right now, you look totally ridiculous trying to downplay their accomplishments. We haven't won or shared an SEC title in TWENTY years. We've been to Omaha once in ELEVEN years. It's not exactly bragging material.
