If Byrne doesn't make a move on Croom, and endorses him for another year

does this change most MSU fans thoughts on the job that Byrne is doing? There is no other program in major college football that their coach can have the
overall record of Croom and still endorse him. I've been a Croom fan through thick and thin, but I'm an MSU fan first and foremost.

it will be a media bloodbath if he's fired right now and even after the season.

How does being a fan through think and think work? That's a lot of thinking.

I dont blame greg, i simply believe it means we cant find the money for the buyout.
Greg isnt stupid..this isnt a lifer stop for him, he is here to fix this **** and move on to bigger things.
cant do that until the program looks good. Football has to be fixed, croom isnt the fix.

Time to court some of the big boys for a buyout donation and slow down some of the planned upgrades.

the sole and exclusive decision maker on this. He may be all for it, but if the "powers that be" won't go along with it, it ain't gonna' happen. The powers that be yield a wide band of influence, and include big money donors, and other power brokers. On the other hand, if they want to make a change, then Byrne will do it and get the credit for it.

It will turn racial in some circles and just plain ugly in others.....I bet he gets one more year regardless of the record.

year. The NAACP could not even logically argue after looking at wins and losses. The simple fact we hired the first black coach in the SEC and have a Black offensive and defensive coordinators would make even Johnny Cockren Cringe. no way there is major fallout.

if you think Croom is going to be fired after this season. There is absolutely no way it happens, unless he is caught humping a farm animal on national television.

Could he resign? Maybe, but I think he's too stubborn. The showdown with Byrne will be at the end of the '09 season, assuming it is a crappy one. My hope is that he pulls a Cut and refuses to fire Woodrow, which I think must happen at the end of the year. Then, maybe Byrne has an out with the media.

especially if we end up 3-9 and 5 straight years of sub-100 offense.

I know for a fact Byrne is on top of all this but he cant do anything until the end of season. We have to ride it out along with him.

going to talk about Croom being black in every single post? Just wondering. Because I smell a race-baiter.

....in most situations is a bad thing for the coach. We just have to wait and see what Byrne's actions are, if any.

But a crowd of 20,000 at our 10th game spoke more loudly than the economic impact of having to buy him out.

Of course, we didn't have the benefit of one year's worth of hope after a bowl season.

My guess is that Byrne will fire him for the obvious net economic impact that they'll see from bringing in a new guy and to put his stamp on the whole department relative to accountability.

what is the media going to do to hamper us?

1. Is the media going to hurt recruiting? No, it already sux
2. Is the media going to hurt enrollment? No, people are going to continue to come here regardless
3. Is the media going to hamper our next hire? No, coaches wont give a **** and will want to be an SEC coach and want to make 2 million a year.

So just what does it matter what the media says?

and the Coach of the Year award buy him a free year, I believe. Barring something unusual. With O, there was no success at all. At least with Croom we had last year's fluke 8 wins to pin hopes on.

Most racist school in Mississippi hat for a few years, we'd be willing to let you borrow it.

Be forewarned, uneasy is the head that wears that crown. </p>

losses to UK, Vandy, Latech, Ark, UM, MTSU all in the same year should get him fired. If we luck up and win 2 more games he probably stays.

ya'll just want us to keep him. I dont think he will be gone after this year UNLESS he just absolutely refuses to make any changes. I'm sticking with 20 more games to go...

we all know it. All we heard was how he would wipe up on the black athletes in recruiting, was Father figure and righteous man. I call BS on all the above. If you don't think race is an issue with Sly your crazy and/or you don't know him. I do believe in whats best for the maroon and white and thats all i care about. And he is not the answer.

We have 5 years worth of statistics to back us up, especially on offense, that this dumb bufoon needs to be fired. PHUCK the media, Crooms deserves to be kicked to the curb. We held on to Jackie for way too damn long and you see what that got us. The only thing worse would be if Byrne gives Crooms 3 more years and then we resurrect Bobby Ross's coaching career.

I think what will probably happen is Byrne will give him ONE more year. BUT, I think Byrne will tell him he has to change the offensive scheme/coaches. If he refuses, then I think Byrne will tell him he needs to hit the trail.

Just a thought....

Croom is a man of high moral standards and his word is solid. He promised us that we would not have to fire him that if he failed he would step aside voluntarily.
I believe that he will do the right thing.

if we go 2-10 and our offense once aGAIN fails to crack the top 100 for the 5th year, coupled with the fact that he's had one season out of 5 where he didn't win more than 3 games, then the media will have a hard time slamming us for **** canning croom...

people will start to understand that last year's season along with crooom's award, was indeed a fluke..

there is NOTHING he's done that even comes close to justifying keeping him on board..

18 years as an assistant should have told us something in the beginning ...thanks LT

he's proven that his loyalty is more geared towards the advancement of black assistants than the program he is in charge of... show me any time in modern SEC history where either an offense or defense ranked as low as our offense has and the same goddamnded coordinator kept their job for 5 phucking years.. croom's hire was a social experiment and now the coach is using his job as one...

PHUCK CROOMS....

On Croom's buyout:
Byrne said he has one, but it's not going to be made public knowledge. It doesn't have to be made public because it doesn't come from state funds.
this is from Brad Locke's Blog. I'm pretty sure some donors our influencing him for a change in our football coach. Theres no way some donors can fully support keeping Crxxm much longer. They cant be supportive of his coaching.

there is already a buyout number in place? Huh,......that sounds very much like a contract counterpoint contingency for the $1.7 raise. Byrne just might have saved our millions....uhhhh errrr bacon by putting a rider in the contract about performance, record, who knows. From the sound of Syl today, and the rumor of a predetermined buyout number, Greg just might come out of this thing and drag the MSU Athletic Department in good shape. There is no way that Byrne just rubber-stamped near 2 million dollar per year contract. I do not know anything in particular.....but this just smells funny.
