just shows that our fan base cares way too much about a couple down years huh
Cal just lost to this same Florida team by a million. Just go to the Arkansas board. You’re clearly just a Calipari fan. Some of us have been here long before Cal. We actually had 7 national championships before Cal. Pope doesn’t look to be the answer. But the answer sure as **** ain’t Cal.

False. We were already at a low point in Cal's final days, but Pope turned out to not be the person to dig us out of that hole.
Agree to disagree. How many games did we lose at home? How many games did we get blown out and were never in it? How many games did you see players not putting the effort? How manny times did we play on Wednesday if the SEC tournament?
Yes we lost to some really bad teams in the NCAA but now we are 19-12 and not even sniffing the SEC.

A Coach Cal team may of been slightly better this year but again not where we want to be.

UK needs an elite coach in the NIL era and it certainly isn't Pope.

given a choice to go back and keep Cal or get this, I would keep Cal. That doesn't mean he didn't need to go. Again, he's doing the same thing there he did here. He'll get talent, but he's not capable of competing against the top programs and coaches anymore. Just look at his staff over there, Chin and Kenny lol.

Can't because Pope doesn't have a full body of work at UK. He may be over his head but so was Cal down the stretch.

Pope has been so bad that he wont be afforded a chance at whatever a "full body of work" is.

In the end, Cal still built his own runway through success. Pope didnt. One has a title. And final fours. And big tournament wins. The other doesnt.

Cal leaving isn't the problem, yes we would have more talent, but he had worn out his welcome. The problem is hiring Pope when Bruce Pearl would have walked here to coach the Cats. Right now, I don't think we are getting Hurley, Golden or Oats. I think Pearl is the perfect hire, we would be a FF contender within two years and when he does hang it up, we would be hiring while we are back on top instead of rock bottom

Again, not pumping Pope. Cal had NBA talent galore. He needed high level talent to win yet only one NC to show for it.

If I had a choice between a guy who wasn't the greatest x and o guy but could recruit vs a guy who might be a good x and o guy but can't recruit, i'm taking the guy that can recruit every single time.

Talent can hide a lot of faults.

But a great coach can only go so far with just that. And it's questionable if Pope is even a "great or even good" coach at this point.

Two years......lack of talent. Year three? Where's the recruiting class there?

I am ALL ABOUT giving guys years to get things going here ............but if you can't recruit then you have to cut ties quickly here.

Not complaining about Cals early years even though he did less with more. His last 4 years at UK were abysmal.
the less with more moniker is silly, is he just supposed to not but the best roster he can put together, also his last team led the COUNTRY in 3 point efficiency and was 3rd in ppg. That product got him FIRED

meanwhile were are in the hundreds in every statistical category and everyones okay with it

Plus we went to four final fours in those early years. So the less with more stuff to me is kind of crazy.

i think the main reason ppl feel this way is just 2015. But then that ignores the fact there was other years where we did more in March than what we would have expected.

But coach K/Scheyer had the same NBA talent from the Tatum/Giles years until now. Over a decade. No title.

I dont understand why people think high-level-yet-inexperienced players are just supposed to power through every single-elimination tournament. It doesnt work that way and its never worked that way. Perfect example, look at last year with Cooper Flagg. He made a ton of ill-advised mistakes against UK and Houston.. the kind of mistakes that guys like Butler and Carr almost never made. Talent doesnt just trump experience, especially when that Talent is in its first year.

I mean Pope apparently doesnt make adjustments either lol.

When do we realize that armchair fans dont always see the full picture. Maybe its not as simple as just making sweeping adjustments 20 times a game. Sometimes you game plan for something and you more or less have to stick to it. Every time you deviate from a plan, you open the door for mistakes, inexperience to show through, .miscommunication, etc.

Look at it this way.. every single year theres 63 NCAAT coaches who "didnt make the right adjusment"

Truthfully, the results under Cal should likely have been more spread out. But we oddly won all our close games in the first half of his tenure, and lost them in the 2nd half. I dont think this was ALL because he just started to go down hill.. a lot of this was just the basketball gods. We probably shouldnt have beaten OSU in 2011 nor gotten to the title game in 2014... yet we should have beaten UNC in 2017 and got a final4 with SGA.

Sadly his success was so absurdly good and unmatched from 2009 to 2015 that fans expected the same going forward. And the ball didn't bounce the same way for those tournament games.

Yeah it kinda goes back to what I've always said ..............what if 2011 and 2014 ended in elite 8s and 2017 and 2019 ended in final fours? Cal might still be coaching here. We were a one possession away each of those seasons. Then you have the small matter of being upset not once but twice at the end of his tenure. But those things happen. They happen to other very good coaches as well. Self, Coach K.......you coach for so long you are going to at some point lose to a team you shouldn't in the tournament.

I dunno. I know people were tired of Cal but even in his last season here we had a super talented team that IMO was fun to watch. This isn't fun. Even the games we have won this season that were very good wins we tended to be trailing most of the game. It's just not enjoyable.

Cal might not have gotten the results in March towards the end, but even some of those seasons were very good.

PG - Acuff/Wagner
SG - Thomas/Johnson
SF - Richmond/Knox
PF - We can guess here. CJ Wilson?
C - Quaintance/Moreno

This is a guess based on who he had recruited to KY before leaving, and guys that he recruited at Arkansas. It's VERY talented. It would be better than this mess we have.

Does JQ stay healthy if he never goes to Arizona St? Moreno is able to transition slower as the backup.

Acuff would've been the next great KY PG. I'll take Wagner as the backup.

Good scoring talent at the 2 spot and Jasper doesn't have to play PG where he gets exposed.

Richmond has elevated his game and brings athleticism and defense.

Cal recruited Wilson at Arkansas.

We'll never know.

Cal was never going to change here. It took a complete change of scenery to get him to change for the better.

Ya pope sucks but cal would've sucked too if he was still here.

Calipari's last season here we were a 3 seed. We had the 7th most efficient offense that season in college basketball.

Not really sure he had to "change".
