would he be logging all of these hours on recruiting visits that he has in the last couple of days. And this morning he met with the staff to look over the blueprints for the new football facility. ( http://t.co/ZiD6taRQ ). I understand that once he feels that he has done all he can at State that he will eventually head elsewhere. I, by no means, expect him to retire here. But I do believe that he will see try to see through what he came here to accomplish, and I certainly don't foresee us falling far enough under him that we would ever force him out. Putting myself in his shoes, I just don't think I would be going about the normal routine, if I thought that I may be headed elsewhere.

maybe because he might not get the job at Penn State? Why would you quit trying to be successful at your current job when you don't know if you will get the new job?

If you were thinking about applying for a job, would you just stop doing your current job without even having an interview, much less an offer yet?

and see if Megan has strung the christmas lights. I seem to remember her telling a bulldog club last year that's the surest sign a coach is fixin to leave because ain't no coaches wife going through the trouble if they are packing up.

While my wife's in H'burg I think I'll have her swing be 4 dora's crib.

I do not know Mullen, besides interviews, quotes, and different look ins

I know Mullen has an AD/President that is and wants to do everything to keep him and allow him to be successful
He could be a Legend here ...look how much we love Jackie
We are unknown that is why we get told if dan is offered he is gone... dan wants out ...whatever you here

Who is Penn St's AD?
What is the plan at Penn ST?
These are all things that Mullen will absolutely know before he leaves

you just have to wait it out
Wardlaw is saying he will talk with PSU at the coaching convention

The reports coming out from "sources" like ESPN make it seem that the job is his for the taking, and that an offer/negotiations are in the works. I was implying that I believe either (A) PSU has not made any semblance of an offer or (B) He is really just not interested.

employer until he isn't employed there anymore. PSU is very interested in Mullen and certainly the feelings are mutual but there appears to be alot of things to work through before any decisions are made. Just keep thinking "heads we win, tails we win", we have never been in this position before, enjoy it and stop worrying.

I certainly don't want Dan to leave but I do think we would be in good hands with Hudspeth if it comes to that.

that he has something here that he knows he is unlikely to get ANYWHERE else in college football.

That's a supportive AD who will try and do anything he asks and basically lets him do anything he wants within reason. Anything. He has free reign to run, market, etc. the football team the way he wants.

just curious because you seem awfully naive....

I may have missed the past threads but maybe we ought to have an "introduce the cast" thread to allow everyone to give their occupation and athletic history (whether or not they played or coached anything past pewee football). At least I would have a better understanding of who is what when espousing their knowledgeof the subject at hand.

..Mullen's 2011 return for a $2.5 million salary is a 6-6 record?

Any man with an ounce of conscience & integrity would be so guilt-ridden over that, he would be working like hell to make up for via recruiting.

Dan Mullen blames Ole Miss for PSU report

Posted by Jerry Hinnen

It's no surprise that with a bowl game on tap and another recruiting class to try and nail down before next February -- assuming he's still the one trying to nail it down -- Dan Mullen wouldn't take kindly to reports and rumors that he's about to catch the next plane for the Penn State job.

And with just such a report circulating from the local TV station, Mullen didn't take kindly to it at an appearance at the Mississippi State Sports Hall of Fame Tuesday night. He told the Clarion-Ledger that he hadn't been contacted by Penn State "or any other school," called the reports "the most irresponsible reporting that I've ever heard of," and saw his athletic director reiterate his denials of contact from Happy Valley.

But the most interesting part of Mullen's statements was who he claimed had been behind the report--namely, his in-state rivals at Ole Miss:

"I blame it on rival institutions trying to ruin our recruiting which we have dominated in this state over the past three years," Mullen said ...

Mullen was asked if he had an idea what rival school might have planted the story.

"You take it from there," he said.

Mullen has made antagonizing (and, to be fair, soundly thrashing) Ole Miss at every opportunity a cornerstone of his Mississippi State tenure, and it's no doubt won him a tremendous amount of support within the Bulldog fanbase. But blaming the Rebels -- who, despite Mullen's claims, have enjoyed the higher overall consensus recruiting rankings of late -- for media sabotage is a delicious new high even for him.

In any case, the TV station reportedly apologized to Mullen at the Hall of Fame event. But it wasn't the only one to report that the Nittany Lions were interested in Mullen's services; ESPN and the Scranton Times both cited sources in claiming Mullen was PSU's top candidate. And Mullen has yet to categorically deny interest in the Penn State opening or state that he will be coaching Mississippi State next year.

"Every time a job comes open, doesn’t my name come up?," Mullen said earlier Tuesday. "So, you know our policy. We talk Mississippi State football. That’s all we ever talk about.”

That's not a bad policy. But until Mullen flat-out states that he's going to be coaching in Starkville next season, he's probably got a few more reports to debunk before all is said and done.
