Folks have said that in big red over reaction Gary sharp stated whittingham interviewed and wanted the job but the university thought he made too much money and so let it be.

I didn't hear that part of the show yesterday but it's not immediately clear if SE was overruled on the money issue or if SE was fine capping the money.

Hopefully someone chimes in who has a more complete picture

I have suspected all along SE was given a limited $$$ to hire a coach - aka "lost his checkbook". And Whittingham would have been much cheaper than a Harbaugh or Meyer.........ah well

Would be surprised if he were not so limited given Bo was owed over $7 million and I assume plenty of the big dollar boosters remembered all the money owed to Callahan.
