Both James Franklin & Chris Peterson would've been in play....a day late and dollar short I guess

Peterson wasn't moving east of the Rockies. Does Frankiin move to a program that fires 9-10 win coaches?

Why wouldn't he head east of the Rockies? Many thought he wouldn't leave Boise and he did so nothing is out of the question.

at the time, i think the thought was that he wanted to stay in boise because his son required specialized medial care that he was able to get in boise. i think his son started doing better from what i heard.

Because he told SI after Udub hired him he was very choosy on his potential landing spots after Boise. He didn't want to leave the NW. It was also rumored we contacted him and he declined our interest.

A Seattle Times article:

Petersen also says that the family feels blessed with Sam, who, at just 13 months old, had a cancerous tumor removed from his brain during a seven-hour surgery. The cancer had spread to his spine and he needed heavy doses of chemotherapy.

“It was a long time ago, but in some ways it was just yesterday,” Petersen said. “It completely changed our outlook on so many things. And I think it’s why we’ve stayed in certain places for long periods of time rather than chasing things around. I think it put a renewed focus on priorities and what’s important.”

Franklin, no thanks.

Peterson's son fully recovered health wise so that wasn't an issue in 2014. I don't think he wanted any part of a blue blood, and preferred something in the PNW. That's all opinion based on following him closely after the Fiesta Bowl win over Oklahoma and what he's stated about not leaving the area he was in.

Again, a lot of coaches, regardless of their confidence in their abilities (which is generally high), take a shorter look at a program that fires coaches that win at a 70% clip. That would be two of the past three coaches. And that is whether or not we think the firings are merited.

Why do people play this game? You can drive yourself crazy playing the "what if" game like this. Yeah, we should have and probably could have hired Barry Alvarez after TO retired. We should have fired Solich a year before we did. We possibly could have had somebody different if we had fired Bo a year earlier. But we didn't do any of those. Live with what we did and focus on support the coach we have instead of thinking about what if we had somebody else.

The places that do this are the top jobs in the nation. If you are in the coaching business, (for most) any of these places are your dream job. More money and all the stuff necessary to build a national title team.
Down here in the south, Coaches get in at a smaller school, win, and move to a bigger and better job. Memphis coach is now at Vtech. Arkansas State Coach is at Ole miss now.
Examples all over the place.
To turn away from a place that gives you absolutely Anything you need to build your program the way you want it and with the history/tradition that Nebraska has would be the things dweebs are made of. Not head coaches.
This guy took on the problems of Penn State. If you have the balls to take that on, you would take on anything else.

If racoons wouldn't have been making noise outside the hot girl downstairs apartment window and if she wouldn't have ran up to my apartment asking for help thinking somebody was trying to break in and if I didn't run outside and act like I fought a burglar when all I did was scare away some racoons we may not be married.

You should be the new spokesperson for Dos Equis.

The reason we haven't been relevant since 2001 is the "he wasn't ever coming east of the Rockies" style of thinking....while I am optimistic for Riles and his staff, I hate the "settle" crowd within our fanbase...winners, don't settle

It has nothing to do with our thinking but theirs. I read these supposition posts that only assume a positive outcome and they are used to tell us how stupid someone is for not making the right decision. Like there is a magic wand and people are lining up to come coach here. It just is not true. It was reporred that Peterson was not interested in Nebraska. Franklin is from the Pennsylvania area as I understand it so it was a natural move for him. Why not throw Gruden, Cower, Saban, and a few dozen others in there while you are speculating.

I wanted Peterson as well but it's obvious N isn't trying to make splash hires. Didn't even consider Tressel though it was said he wasn't interested in coaching again plus the show cause but at least try.

I really liked Franklin because of his ability to recruit. It seemed like the big question was his coaching. Maybe it still is, I really don't know.

It literally takes 10 seconds to make a post. I am sure people can post on this topic and still manage to find the time to "focus" on supporting this staff.

The guy won at Vanderbilt. After they were a laughing stock for many years. There was a lot of talk about him down here.

Yeah, that was a big deal. I think he never had a winning record in conference but it seemed like he built up the program the best way he could.

- Easier Non-con games to start getting wins
- Recruiting like a mad man
- Change the uniforms up and make it "cool"

I thought he could kill it when it came to recruiting if he was at NU.

I agree JRE. PSU had to be the most despised university in the public eye, and was held down by sanctions. He recruited, and flipped it in only a few seasons. Now they're B1G Champs and possibly going to the playoffs. Trying to hold my jealously in check lol.

Yeah, but what if you heard those raccoons talking about their food tasting like chutney and burnt hair? And then what if they heard some dogs barking and took off before you got there?:D

IF I hadn't come back from the shower wearing only a towel my roommate's sister wouldn't have ever seen me glistening wet with my shirt off.....and she married me anyway. After months of trying I finally got her to go out on a date with me:oops:..... BTW, TO would have never ponied up the money to hire either one of those guys plus they weren't in play because they wouldn't have hired any of TO's former players.

Both guys would be taking *** kicking here and many on here would still be whining about. Neither guy would be doing better than what Riley is right now.

I'm sure Nick Saban or Urban Meyer would do no better than Riley either..

These first two years they sure as hell wouldn't noob. Check out Saban's record his first year at Alabama.

What is noob?

I'm also well aware of Nick Saban at Alabama or Michigan State, or LSU or Miami, etc.

Point being is that it doesn't always come down to roster just as it doesn't always come down to coaching.
